- Netflix scraps basic plan in shock move
- Australia is among the countries losing the option
Netflix is scrapping its basic subscription in Australia, in a major blow to subscribers.
The streaming giant is canceling its plan in a number of countries, including Australia, from next week.
The Basic plan costs $10.99 per month and is the cheapest option for subscribers, but the low price tag comes at the expense of ads that interrupt the shows.

The streaming service said the change will take effect on Monday, October 23 in the Austrian Front.
The move comes as the company looks to grow its ad revenue by locking customers into ad-supported streaming plans.
The company said in a statement announcing its financial results that the change to increase revenue by including advertising in subscription options was critical to its business.
The platform’s ‘Basic with Ads’ plan only launched in Australia in November 2022, after first launching in Canada and Mexico on November 1.
