Netflix has released a new official clip from Arcane season 2, and it foreshadows a potentially fascinating alliance between Jinx and Sevika.
The latest teaser, which you can watch below, shows Jinx running for her life as she seemingly evades capture by, well, everyone. The clip does indeed reveal her carrying a package, and my first thought is that she’s attempting to remove the rocket launcher she used to attack Piltover’s council chambers in the Season 1 finale. That heartless act means that not only are Piltover’s law enforcement after her, but likely Zaun’s bounty hunters as well, who are trying to make a quick buck by bringing her in.
Either way, she’s soon attacked by the Scrap Hackers, a new Zaun-based criminal faction led by the Yordle known as Smeech, who will be making their debut in one of Netflix’s best series in its second season. After a tense back-and-forth between Jinx and the body-augmented crime outfit, Jinx is seemingly saved by Sevika before the clip ends.
What makes the reunion of Jinx and Sevika such an interesting proposition is that the latter is unaware that Jinx has murdered Silco, aka the criminal kingpin they worked for. By the end of Arcane‘s first season, Sevika is unaware that Jinx took Silco’s life after he tried to kill her sister Vi. For now, Jinx and Sevika remain allies, but for how long remains to be seen.
As I mentioned earlier, this is just the latest Season 2 clip that Netflix has released to pique our interest in the animated series. League of Legends (Lol) show is back. In late July, another clip showed Heimerdinger and Ekko infiltrating a Hexcore lab in Piltover, while a far-too-brief bit of footage in June announced new heroes, another possible time jump, and Vi’s new costume. In January, the first Arcane season 2 clip also suggested we’d see a fan favorite Lol villains make their debut in the Netflix TV adaptation of Riot Games’ beloved video game franchise.
An official distraction from Netflix’s massive data breach?
Call me a cynic, but the timing of this latest clip’s release seems a little too coincidental. Why? Because, if you weren’t aware, Netflix has, at the time of writing, spent the last five days battling a massive data breach after one of its post-production partners suffered a major data breach, resulting in complete but unfinished episodes of Arcane season 2, Heart Conqueror season 3 and many other shows being put online. Other projects, including numerous new Netflix movies set to be released before the end of 2024, have also been affected by the security hack.
Other than telling the press that it is “taking aggressive action” to remove the leaks from the internet, the PR team at one of the world’s top streaming services has not commented further. However, a few movie and TV show creators have commented, including Arcane co-showrunner Christian Linke, who posted a gif on X/Twitter (see below) summarizing his reaction to the leak.
Considering that this new clip was only released 48 hours after the first reports of the murder, Arcane season 2 episodes leaking online, I can’t help but feel like this is a ploy by Netflix. Of course, I want to give it and Riot the benefit of the doubt and believe that this clip was always going to be revealed on Saturday (August 10th). The timing, however, is a little too coincidental for my taste. I’ll take an officially released clip over an unfinished episode any day of the week, but I can’t be the only one who sees this as a simple diversionary tactic by Netflix and co. to keep people from searching for said leaked episodes.
