Netflix movie becomes ‘unexpected’ Christmas classic: ‘The best holiday film I have seen in years’

There’s no shortage of festive films as the holidays approach, but Christmas fans have already crowned their favorite.

According to Rotten Tomatoes, which ranked Netflix’s holiday films, the 2019 animated film Klause is a near-perfect film.

The beautifully animated creation, which scores an impressive 95 percent on the Tomatometer scoring system and 96 percent on the Popcornmeter, has been catapulted into ‘classic’ territory.

Fans have hailed the film – which features the voices of JK Simmons, Rashida Jones and Norm McDonald – as an ‘unexpected’ Christmas classic.

“Klaus might be one of the best holiday movies I’ve enjoyed in years,” said one user on Rotten Tomatoes.

“This will satisfy the spooky and cheerful in your life with a beautiful story, strange images, hopeful moments, lots of laughter and a few tears,” they concluded.

And plenty of others agreed with the assessment.

“Klaus is the surprise of this awards season,” one fan gushed.

“A fascinating revisionist story, destined to become another Christmas classic,” someone else agreed.

“Klaus is destined to become a new holiday classic,” declared another.

The animated film is set in the fictional island village of Smeerensburg and tells the ‘origin story’ of Santa Claus.

It tells the story of a spoiled young postman named Jesper, who forms an unlikely friendship with a local toymaker and hermit named Klaus before they work together to bring joy to a town torn by a family feud.

The film even surpassed the Christmas classic Love Actually, which received a score of 21 out of 61.

Netflix has become known for its variety of Christmas movies, including the popular Princess Switch tribology and the 2024 addition, Hot Frosty.

Klause followed with 91 percent in 2020 with Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey.

At number three was Alien Christmas (2020), followed by Who Killed Santa? A Murderville Murder Mystery (2022) starring Jason Bateman, Will Arnett and Maya Rudolph, and Feast of the Seven Fishes (2019).

This season, Netflix has opted to swap the wholesome family cheer for sizzling passion, releasing a series of noticeably spicier festive films in the run-up to Christmas.

Viewers are already big fans of this bold choice, with several films already debuting at number one on Netflix while setting social media on fire.

Last year, IMBD collected the best Christmas movie of all time, with Home Alone (1990) as the best.

It was followed by Love Actually (2003), National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation (1989), Elf (2003) and How The Grinch Stole Christmas (2000).
