Viewers referred to Incantation, which arrived on the streaming platform in 2022
Another comment read: ‘One of the scariest movies I’ve ever seen – and I’ve seen them all.’
Observers referred to Incantation, which was released on the streaming platform in 2022.
Inspired by a true story, the picture follows Li Ronan, a woman who was cursed “after breaking a religious taboo.”
As a result, she must “protect her daughter from the consequences of her actions” and fight to keep her child away from the demons of evil spirits.
The film was inspired by an incident in Taiwan in 2005, in which a family of six claimed to be possessed by various Chinese folk deities, while accusing each other of being possessed by demons masquerading as gods.
The group burned each other with incense, hit each other with sticks and spirit tablets, and splashed feces and urine on each other in an attempt to get rid of the demons.
The others chose to single out the family’s eldest daughter and attacked her until she died from her injuries.
The five remaining members of her family were subsequently charged with the crime of abandonment of a helpless person resulting in the death of the person.
The film became the highest-grossing Taiwanese horror film of all time, despite a mixed rating on review sites.
On Rotten Tomatoes, it scored 75 percent on the Tomatometer, with a slightly lower average of 62 percent for the audience score.
