Netflix fans have praised a ‘hidden gem’ series that has a 100 percent Rotten Tomatoes rating – as viewers eagerly await its second season.

The law according to Lidia Poet is based on the true story of Italy’s first female lawyer who investigates murders while fighting sexism in the 19th century.

The six-part crime series, which first premiered in February 2023, has been flooded with positive feedback on social media since its release.

Dozens have labeled it ‘excellent’ and a ‘hidden gem’, while others urged viewers to tune in for series two.

In the show’s teaser, Lidia (played by Matilda De Angelis) introduces herself to viewers by saying, “I’m a lawyer.

“If you know me, you know I’m not allowed to argue in court because I’m a woman.”

The series then documents her life as she fights to overcome the sexist restrictions that prevent her from pursuing her career after being “banned from working on cases.”

Yet Lidia still manages to investigate her share of gruesome deaths, while also navigating her own new love with Jacopo Barberis (Eduardo Scarpetta).

And it seems the no-nonsense leading man has captivated viewers as many rushed to social media to gush over the streaming series.

In a Reddit thread asking for recommendations for “hidden gems,” one enthusiastic fan wrote: ‘If you don’t mind subtitles, The Law According to Lidia Poet is excellent. It is based on the life of Italy’s first female lawyer.

‘At the moment only the first season (six episodes) is available, but a second season will be released in the spring.’

And another person replied: ‘Loved the show.’

One person gave the show five stars, writing, “I absolutely LOVED it. This miniseries is funny, heartwarming, romantic and light. I changed the language to English and quickly got used to it.

‘I loved all the main characters. The stories were entertaining and light. And I was surprised that it is based on the first female lawyer in Italy. Highly recommended if you like murder mysteries and romance.’

A second person, who also gave the show five stars, added: ‘Very funny series. Obviously very fiction (based) compared to history, but that doesn’t bother me because I would watch a documentary if I wanted historical accuracy.

“The cast had a great ensemble performance and loved the tension and understanding between the characters.”

“One of the most entertaining series based on a true story I’ve ever seen,” a third commenter wrote while giving the series five stars.

The second series of The Law According to Lidia Poet will be released on Netflix later this year.
