Netflix fans ‘so excited’ over gripping trailer for A-list murder mystery hailed as ‘the new White Lotus’

In the first trailer for the upcoming miniseries The Perfect Couple, a wealthy Nantucket family’s lives are turned upside down.

Nicole Kidman and Liev Schreiber play the heads of this wealthy clan, who organize their son’s wedding, which is said to be the summer event of the season.

Things go terribly wrong for Greer Garrison Winbury (Kidman), a world-famous novelist, her husband Tag (Liev Schreiber) and their children Abby (Dakota Fanning), Thomas (Jack Reynor), Will (Sam Nivola) and Benji (Billy Howle).

The Netflix miniseries is an adaptation of Elin Hilderbrand’s 2018 novel of the same name and stars Eve Hewson as bride-to-be Amelia and Meghann Fahy as Amelia’s best friend Merritt Monaco.

The limited series, which premiered in the UK on Monday, is expected to premiere on September 5. Fans have already reacted online, with reviewers comparing the series to HBO’s The White Lotus.

The trailer opens with a confused Tag, alone in an interrogation room, knocking on the two-way mirror and asking, “Hello?”, but no one answers.

Meanwhile, in another interrogation room, Thomas asks, “Am I under arrest? Or can I get something to eat?”

Greer casually turns over a piece of paper as someone says, “They’re rich. Kill someone and get away with it.”

A family photo is taken and Will says, “We are the perfect family” as the photo is taken.

The trailer shows their idyllic beachside lifestyle, as Tag tells the family, “We’re all under a lot of stress… because of the accident.”

The footage shows police cordoning off parts of their private beach and bagging evidence. Greer says: ‘It’s all such a shock and we’re all very upset.’

Reporters ask Tag if he has any comment on the body found on the property and whether his wife is a suspect.

Thomas tells an officer, “I thought our family’s contribution to the Nantucket Fund would give us a little more freedom,” but the officer just laughs.

Thomas tells an agent, “I thought our family’s contribution to the Nantucket Fund would give us a little more discretion,” but the agent just laughs.

The trailer then offers insight into several characters, including Greer, who, according to a witness, “makes everyone who spends time at the house sign a non-disclosure agreement.”

Tag is described as a “DILF” by his stepdaughter Abby, while Benji is described as “difficult to understand” by Police Chief Dan Carter (Michael Beach).

Will screams, “I fucking hate them,” seemingly referring to his family, while Thomas is described as “an idiot.”

Thomas eventually proves that description to be true, saying in an interrogation room, “Yes, I take pills from everyone. Is that a crime?”

A disbelieving Detective Nikki Henry (Donna Lynne Champlin) simply says, “Yes!”, which Thomas clearly wasn’t expecting.

The trailer ends with a series of shots showing the wealthy family’s lives. Carter says the family is “used to getting everything they want, but when they feel like they’re losing control, they set everything on fire.”

In the final shot, Greer is seen telling Carter, “Even the best liars get very tired, it all becomes too much and they just drop out.”

After the London premiere, the reviews are starting to trickle in, with Forbes and called it “the best whodunit of 2024” so far.
