Netflix fans go wild over ‘hidden gem’ movie with an 89% Rotten Tomatoes rating: ‘A film hasn’t made me feel like this for a long time’
Netflix viewers are excited about a new Turkish film, labeling it a 'hidden gem' tucked away on the streaming platform.
Miracle in Cell No. 7, directed by Mehmet Ada Öztekin, opens with a bride-to-be who becomes emotional when the death penalty is abolished in Turkey.
We quickly flash back to 1983 and see the bride, Ova (Nisa Sofiya Aksongur), with her father Mehmet 'Memo' (Aras Bulut Iynemli), who has cognitive disabilities.
The couple lives with her grandmother Fatma (Celile Toyon Uysal) in a small remote village, but things quickly go wrong when Memo gets into a fight with the child of a military officer.
While chasing the child for the bag Ova wants, the officer's daughter unfortunately falls off a cliff and dies.
Film buffs are raving about a Turkish film on Netflix, labeling it an 'absolute hidden gem' (Aras Bulut Iynemli as Memo and Nisa Sofiya Aksongur as Ova)

Memos tries to save the child, but it is wrongly believed that he killed her.
The child's furious and grieving father is adamant in sentencing Memo to death, and while in prison he is brutally abused.
Ova is determined to see her father, having escaped from their family home. She leaves a note explaining the circumstances to her grandmother, who as a result suffers a heart attack and dies.
The young girl is eventually smuggled into prison and reunited with her father, attempting to convince his cellmates and guards that he is indeed innocent.
According to Ova, a deserter had been discovered who had seen the alleged crime take place and who could prove Memo's innocence.
But with the dead girl's father adamant that someone should pay for his daughter's death, it remains uncertain whether Memo will be able to walk away with his life.
The emotional rollercoaster of a film has an impressive Rotten Tomatoes Audience Score of 85%, with viewers using TikTok to praise the film.
