Netflix fans are going crazy for a new drama film with a 92 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes.

May December starring Natalie Portman and Julianne Moore – which also received critical acclaim – was released on November 17 before streaming on Netflix on December 1.

The American film directed by Todd Haynes from a screenplay by Samy Burch is loosely inspired by the story of Mary Kay Letourneau.

The film follows an actress Elizabeth (Natalie) who travels to Georgia to meet and study the life of the controversial woman Gracie Atherton-Yoo (Julianne), who she will play in a film.

The woman is infamous for her 23-year relationship with her husband Joe (Charles Melton), whom she first met as a minor.

Twenty years after their infamous tabloid romance gripped the country, the couple buckles under the pressure when the actress arrives to investigate.

The film was announced in June 2021, with Natalie and Julianne joining the cast, and filming took place in mid-2022 near Savannah, Georgia.

The film premiered at the 76th Cannes Film Festival on May 20.

After seeing the movie, fans went crazy and took to Twitter to praise the acting and storyline, and especially Charles' acting.

One fan said: 'It's the next morning after seeing May December (2023) and I can't get Charles Melton's performance out of my head.

“It's just so good and the movie itself is an amazing masterpiece, dude.”

Charles accepted the Gotham Award for Outstanding Supporting Performance for May December on Monday night.

Elsewhere at the event, Past Lives was named Best Feature Film, while Lily Gladstone walked away with the biggest acting award of the evening.

“It's such an honor,” Past Lives writer and director Celine Song said in her acceptance speech Variety.

“Thank you, Gotham, for this award. It really means that the world is receiving it with my debut set in New York City, a city I live and love very much.”

Song – who was joined on stage by the film's Greta Lee and John Magaro – thanked her collaborators at A24, as well as the film's cast and crew.

Gladstone won Outstanding Lead Performance for The Unknown Country, while Melton won Outstanding Supporting Performance for May December.

A Thousand and One director AV Rockwell won the Breakthrough Director Award.

Anatomy of a Fall claimed Best International Feature Film and Best Screenplay, while Four Daughters won Best Documentary.

The Netflix series Beef won two awards for Breakthrough Series – Under 40 minutes; and outstanding performance in a new series for Ali Wong.

A Small Light won honors for Breakthrough Series – In 40 Minutes.

All of Us Strangers, directed by Andrew Haigh, received the most nominations with four, but won no awards; Past Lives and One Thousand and One had three each.
