Netflix fans go WILD as major pop star announces Christmas special with musical guests

Netflix has selected a new Queen of Christmas to captivate audiences this holiday season.

On Thursday, the streaming platform announced that Sabrina Carpenter will host her own Netflix special, titled A Nonsense Christmas. It will feature surprise musical guests, performances from her Christmas EP Fruitcake, various Christmas classics, comedic cameos and unexpected duets.

The 25-year-old pop star, who has been on a roll since opening for Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour and the release of her hit album Short n’ Sweet, shared the news on her Instagram account with a cheeky video.

In her announcement video, she slowly walks towards the camera, dressed in a sparkly Santa outfit and black boots with fur trim.

“Are you expecting anyone else?” she asks with a grin, seemingly referring to Mariah Carey, who has become virtually synonymous with Christmas over the past three decades.

She captioned the post with the cheeky message: “This is really going to ring a bell.”

During a conversation with the Netflix site, TudumCarpenter was very excited about the opportunity, explaining that the “holidays have always been so special” for her.

“I’m looking forward to putting my own spin on a classic holiday variety, and combining my love of music and comedy into something that’s right up my alley,” she said.

The special is produced by OBB Pictures and At Last Productions.

Carpenter will serve as executive producer, along with Michael D. Ratner, Scott Ratner, Simone Spira, Kfir Goldberg, Bill Perlman and Janelle Lopez Genzink.

Meanwhile, San Wrench will direct and Nikki Boella has been announced as the program’s showrunner.

“Sabrina’s vision to subvert the classic holiday special has been clear from day one,” Ratner raved. “At OBB, we collaborate with the world’s most compelling artists to reinvent the expected, and we’re proud of the work of our entire team.”

However, some wondered if she had subtly harmed Carey in her post.

“Oh I know Mariah is shaking!!!!!” mused another.

An X user laughed: “She had one good year and now she thinks she’s Mariah Carey.”
