Once Tess gets there, she is surprised to see a man named Keith (Skarsgård) already there, who seems to be harmless.

Things change once Tess notices her door has been opened, and from there she and Keith are destroyed by a monster known as The Mother.

Some time later, the homeowner named AJ (Long) returns to the location with the intention of expecting the property to be put on the market.

He becomes involved in the events after he is attacked by The Mother while trying to measure a hidden tunnel.

The pair must work to escape The Mother and the estate. Along the way, dark secrets about the house are revealed, leading to the shocking truth about how the motherly creature was created.

Barbarian was highly praised by critics and as of now, the horror film currently has a 93 percent rating Rotten tomatoes.

“The joy of the film is that it constantly keeps the audience guessing and delivers daring swing after swing,” wrote Ian Sandwell of Digital spy in October 2022.

“It would still be an excellent horror movie if you knew what to expect, but that would spoil the fun.”

Other positive reviews from critics focused on Zach Cregger, who wrote and directed Barbarian.

David Fear of Rolling stone wrote that Cregger “knows exactly how to evoke fear, use jump scares and play the tension-and-release-and-oh-hey-here’s-even-more-tension game that characterizes the best creepfests.’

“Georgina Campbell, who fans will recognize from the episode ‘Hang the DJ,’ holds on to the Final Girl archetype and quietly subverts it,” Fear added.

Unfortunately, not all critics were happy with the film’s outcome, including Todd Jorgenson Cinemalogist.

“While it contains some effective narrative gimmicks, this haunted house thriller is driven by a perfunctory series of coincidences and eye-rolling character behavior that undermines any sustained tension,” he wrote in September 2022.

Benjamin Lee out The guard wasn’t too happy with the film either, writing, “The big secret here is that, unfortunately, it’s not very good.”

Audiences were more divided in the reviews on Barbarian, but it did manage to maintain a 71 percent audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Barbarian received positive reviews from X users and critics, but did not receive the best opinions from moviegoers active on Rotten Tomatoes

Despite its high audience score, the film was seemingly a dud in the eyes of several Rotten Tomato users.

‘It’s silly, the wrong directions are just a waste of time. It’s impossible to get invested in the character arcs,” one viewer wrote on May 11.

“The backstory is undercooked. It’s not even remotely scary. I didn’t feel anything.’

However, users ofburst out laughing.’

“Barbarian (2022) is a well-made film that in no way sacrifices reality, believability, or slow-building tension to tell its story,” says an X user tweeted.

‘It’s a masterclass in subtlety. The themes are deep and complex, and open to countless interpretations upon re-examination.’
