Fans voiced their dismay after a beloved Netflix series was canceled after one season, despite rave reviews.

Part of the DC Comics Sandman universe, Dead Boy Detectives follows teenage ghosts Edwin Paine and Charles Roland as they team up with Crystal the psychic to solve mysteries for their supernatural clients.

The eight-episode series, which debuted on Netflix in the UK and Ireland on April 25, proved to be a huge hit with horror and mystery fans alike, but sadly there will be no second season.

Shortly after the show’s cancellation was announced, the two leads took to social media to express their displeasure.

George Rexstrew, who plays Edwin, expressed his grief by posting a broken red heart emoji on a black screen on Instagram.

His co-star Jayden Revri, who plays Charles, reflected on his experiences on the series in a heartfelt X-post.

He wrote: ‘I just wanted to say how grateful I am forever to Dead Boy Detectives.

“I got to meet some of the most talented people I know and most importantly I got to meet all of you. You are the heartbeat of this show and our legacy will live on forever in this community☠️”

Fans flooded his comments, expressing their sadness over the cancelled series. Some wrote: ‘I’m currently going through the 7 stages of grief’,
