Netflix crime thriller leads US Top 10 movies chart despite being a box office bomb nearly four years ago
Netflix’s US Top 10 Movies list currently includes a crime thriller released almost four years ago: The Postcard Killings.
The mystery film, which premiered in March 2020, stars The Walking Dead’s Jeffrey Dean Morgan and X-Men’s Famke Janssen, but made less than it did at the box office upon release.
Much of its recent popularity can be attributed to the increased interest in crime television and its star-studded cast, which also includes familiar faces Dakota Fanning and Patrick Dempsey.
The film reached seventh spot on the US Top 10 film chart within its first week after being added to the streaming service this month.
As of publication, The Postcard Killings is now number one (US charts only, not internationally).

The film reached seventh spot on the US Top 10 film chart within its first week after being added to the streaming service this month.
The film follows a New York detective named Jacob Kanon – played by Morgan – as he hunts down a serial killer after his daughter is murdered during her honeymoon in London.
With the help of an American journalist named Dessie Lombard (played by Cush Jumbo) and a German police officer, Inspector Klaus Bublitz (played by Joachim Król), he investigates a series of similar murders in Europe.
The film is based on The Postcard Killers, a 2010 novel written by James Patterson and Liza Marklund. The script was written by Marklund and Andrew Stern.
The film is directed by award-winning director Danis Tanović, who has received critical acclaim for many films, with the exception of his first American venture.
The Postcard Killings currently has a critic score of 24% (and an audience score of 39%) Rotten tomatoes.
No spoilers, but the ending of The Postcard Killings sets up for a possible sequel.
With the streaming success, a follow-up film could be likely.
Despite the low reviews, the two leading stars may have contributed to its popularity and newfound fame.
