Nepo baby gun suspect Declyn ‘Dex’ Lauper ‘dropped the name of his superstar mom Cyndi Lauper and her most famous song during his arrest’
Pop icon Cyndi Lauper’s son reportedly mentioned his famous mother’s name when he was arrested on gun charges.
Declyn “Dex” Lauper, 28, allegedly mentioned his superstar mother’s name and talked about her best-known song, “Girls Just Want to Have Fun,” during his arrest.
The fake baby gun suspect told police about his superstar mother and her hit while he was handcuffed after a shooting in Harlem, according to court documents obtained by the New York Post.
“I grew up with the name Cyndi Lauper, Girls Just Want to Have Fun,” Lauper reportedly told a detective.
The aspiring rapper appeared in Manhattan Supreme Court in a swanky white Versace shirt, where he pleaded not guilty to weapons charges stemming from the February 7 incident.

He was caught with a loaded Glock .48 caliber pistol and drugs, near the spot where his 24-year-old friend was shot in the leg by a gang of five gunmen.
“My head is usually in the right place, it’s my music,” he reportedly told police after the arrest. “No, I asked people to call my mom and call my life coach.”
“All I know is I look up and there’s guns in everybody’s face,” Lauper said. “It’s not really my first rodeo, coming from my family where I come from. And my mom and uncles and everything. So I was chill bro.”
He then bragged about his wealth, claiming he wore a $20,000 necklace and that his father paid for his injured friend’s lawyer.
“I’m not going to lie to you, I paid his lawyer, so he took that bullet for me,” said Lauper, who avoided Rikers Island after his father, David Thornton, a “Law & Order” actor, posted him $20,000 bail at his trial.
This isn’t Lauper’s first run-in with the law. He previously avoided a prison sentence when he stole a Mercedes from a memorial for another rapper in 2022.
He was arrested after being found in possession of a stolen 2014 Mercedes Benz during a July 14, 2022, memorial service for an aspiring rapper named Ethan Reyes, who was fatally stabbed days earlier.

Dex was arrested while sitting in a stopped car double-parked at the intersection of 140th Street and Broadway, the New York Post reported.
According to prosecutors in the case, when Dex was questioned about the vehicle, he told police officers, “You probably know who I am.”
Dex pleaded guilty to disturbing the peace, but did not receive a prison sentence for the incident.
As a condition of his plea agreement, Dex was ordered by the Manhattan Superior Court to remain out of trouble for a year; and to perform five days of community service. According to the outlet, he could face up to a year in prison if found guilty.
After the October 2022 court hearing, Dex was spotted smoking marijuana (which is legal in New York City) with friends as he got into an SUV parked outside the courthouse.
Dex posted a message on Instagram Stories that day, in which he included a photo of a vehicle filled with smoke, with the caption “Court.”
Declyn “Dex” Lauper, 26, walked into Manhattan Supreme Court with his girlfriend and entourage in April to face a hearing on two counts of criminal possession of a loaded firearm
In April, he appeared in court on gun charges following the Harlem shooting.
He walked with his girlfriend and entourage to Manhattan Supreme Court to be heard on two charges of possession of a loaded firearm.
He wore a white Louis Vuitton shirt, light blue jeans and sunglasses in the courtroom, where Judge Marisol Martinez Alonso adjourned the case until May 15.
That came after he was faced with the threat of eviction from his luxury Manhattan apartment after neighbors complained about loud music, late-night shouting and the smell of marijuana.
His landlord filed an eviction petition to have the 26-year-old removed from his $7,200-a-month apartment.
Dex is accused of violating the Financial District apartment building’s lease rules since he moved in last October.
