Nepalese Foreign Minister Arzu Rana Deuba arrived on Sunday for a five-day visit to conduct a thorough review of bilateral relations.
Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said Deuba’s visit was a testament to the “unique and close” relationship between the two countries.
“A warm welcome to FM @Arzuranadeuba from Nepal on her official visit to New Delhi,” he posted on ‘X’.
“The visit is a continuation of the tradition of regular high-level bilateral exchanges and is a testament to the unique and close relationship between the two countries,” Jaiswal said.
Deuba will hold extensive talks with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Monday.
The visit by the Nepalese Foreign Minister comes a week after Foreign Minister Vikram Misri traveled to Kathmandu.
Nepal is an important neighbour for India because of the country’s overall strategic interests in the region. The leaders of the two countries have often pointed out the age-old “Roti Beti” relationship between the two sides.
The country shares a border of over 1,850 km with five Indian states: Sikkim, West Bengal, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand. Landlocked Nepal is heavily dependent on India for the transportation of goods and services.
