NeNe Leakes gives positive update on son Brentt’s health as she shares he’s walking & talking again

NeNe Leakes took to Instagram Wednesday night to share a health update about her son Brentt Leakes two months after he suffered congestive heart failure and a stroke.

The 54-year-old Real Housewives Of Atlanta alum shared videos of the 23-year-old leaving a rehab facility fully recovered.

She wrote: ‘Glory to God. He walks and talks.’

Leakes, who shared Brentt with late husband Gregg Leakes, posted before and after photos of her second child’s recovery journey.

She began the series of messages with a statement that read, “My [son’s] life changed on September 26th.’

Brentt, who was dressed in a bright pink tracksuit with black and white sneakers, looked slightly embarrassed when his mother cheered him on as he rounded a corner in a hospital.

He wore a black hat over his braided hair as staff at the site excitedly cheered him on after a two-month stint in physical therapy.

NeNe expressed her gratitude to the healthcare professionals who cared for her beloved son during his recovery.

As Brentt stood by his carers, she emphasized, “Nurses are the best,” adding a red heart emoji.

The young adult posed with a group of women while holding a certificate stating that he had completed his rehabilitation.

In a throwback photo taken shortly after his health complications, the reality TV star wrote, “Nothing but God.”

In another slide, the founder of Linnethia Lounge noted that her son was “home just in time for the holidays.”

NeNe confirmed her son’s health issues on her Instagram Stories two weeks after the incident.

In the post, she revealed that Brentt had shown improvement since the ordeal began, but was “struggling” with his speech.

She added that it was not known what caused his health to deteriorate in the first place.

“Two weeks ago today, Brentt developed congestive heart failure and a stroke. He’s only 23, so he’s very young for something like this to happen,” NeNe said in a video recorded in her car.

“The first thing many doctors think of when someone that age comes in with a condition like this is maybe they’ve taken drugs or had a serious infection, maybe HIV,” NeNe said.

“Brentt doesn’t drink or do drugs… they also tested him for HIV. They thought he might have contracted COVID and he didn’t know he had COVID. They would have seen some things happen if they took the Delta variant. He didn’t know he had COVID. I never knew he has COVID. So they ran some tests on him to see what might have happened to him,” she explained.

“We’re still figuring it out because if we knew the cause, of course they could treat the cause.” It was very scary. I don’t even want to go into details about what happened… how I found out and what condition he was in. A stroke is clearly a very serious matter. He has trouble speaking. I don’t know. I just know that… keep us in your prayers,” the star added.

“Brent FaceTimed me this morning. He’s in a good mood. We’re just… shocked. Just shocked… This is all still so new to me. We are not revealing where Brentt is currently.

“Maybe Brentt was born with some kind of disease… something with his heart since he was a kid. And it just never showed up until now. We do not know. This is just a lot for us right now. Everything is still very new. I’ve been asked a million questions…could his weight have been the problem? The doctors said no.’

“He has shown some improvement. We are very happy and blessed for that.’

“Brentt was very stressed in the month of September because it was one year ago that his father passed away. He was really close to his dad and he’s been super stressed about it. I don’t even know if that has anything to do with it at all. I’ve asked the doctors such questions and they seem to think that’s not the case with Brentt.’

Insiders told TMZ that Leakes went through the medical emergency in Atlanta and was quickly taken to a hospital for treatment.

The site later reported that Brentt spent a few days in the hospital before being released and sent to rehab.

“Everyone is hopeful that he will make a full recovery,” sources tell the newspaper.

NeNe gave Brentt a shout-out on his 23rd birthday in February and posted a slew of photos of her son on her Instagram account.

My little big baby is 23 days! It’s his first birthday without Dad!’ she captioned the post.

“Brentt, I know Gregg will love you all day❤️We are both so proud of you!” she wrote.

“Join me in wishing my son a happy 23rd birthday and showing him some love @kingbrentt,” she continued.

In addition to Brentt, NeNe has son Bryson Bryant from a previous relationship. Her late husband had five other children.

NeNe and Gregg married in 1997. They divorced in 2011, but later reconciled and remarried.

Last year, Gregg passed away at the age of 66 after a four-year battle with colon cancer.

In August, NeNe wrote a touching tribute to Gregg on what would have been his 67th birthday.

“Today is a tuff one…every year on this date we would celebrate you!” Can’t believe we’re wishing you a heavenly birthday today,” she wrote on Instagram.

She added a photo of herself smiling as she posed with one arm around a seated Gregg.
