Nelly and Ashanti have been in ‘talks’ for a Las Vegas residency that may happen soon

Nelly recently celebrated his 50th birthday in Las Vegas with his wife Ashanti, where he teased a possible Sin City residency.

The St. Louis native (born Cornell Iral Haynes Jr.) and his wife (born Ashanti Shequoiya Douglas), 44, were asked about the possibility of a residency in a new interview with Entertainment tonight.

It appears the couple — who tied the knot last December and welcomed their first child in July — were in talks about a residency not too long ago.

‘That’s funny you say that. There were conversations about that not too long ago,” Nelly teased.

‘I’m not going to say too much more, but hopefully everything stays on the right track. I love Vegas, she loves Vegas. “We both love Vegas for very different reasons,” he said.

The couple would join a growing list of stars with their own residencies, such as Billy Joel, Donny Osmond, Usher, Babyface, Shania Twain, Pitbull and many more.

The couple goes back a few decades, when they first started dating in 2003 after meeting at the Grammy Awards.

They dated for ten years until they split in 2013, but reconciled in 2023 and quietly tied the knot just a few days after Christmas.

They welcomed their first child Kareem Kenkaide in July, with Nelly joking, “I’ve been relegated to very, very small parts of our lives,” before opening up about what Ashanti is like as a mother.

‘She’s a great mother. To see someone care so much about someone else and give their all and be willing to give their all,” he said.

“You know, like she said, it can go too far sometimes, but you would much rather have a parent who goes too far and a parent who doesn’t go far enough,” he said.

“It’s a laughable love in a good way, because I just laugh, I just choke. I said, look at this baby. I can’t wait to show him some of the pictures in the videos, like look what your mom did to you. She treats him like a Build A Bear,” Nelly joked.

The interview and birthday outing come just months after Ashanti explained the meaning of her son’s name.

“Kenkaide is my dad’s name, and obviously my dad only has girls,” Ashanti revealed to ET this summer.

The baby’s middle name, Kareem, has Arabic origins and means “generous, kind and dignified,” she told the newspaper.

Ashanti said Nelly, whose real name is Cornell Iral Haynes Jr. is, was the person who named their son.

“His father named him with great pride” and thought the name was “really great,” Ashanti told the outlet.
