The canceled Australian soap Neighbors won two prestigious awards at the Inside Soap Awards in London this week, three months after the soap was discontinued.

The recently canceled program was named Best Daytime Soap and long-running cast member Stefan Dennis, 63, was named Best Daytime Star.

It was a bittersweet win for the show that rested in July after production company Fremantle failed to find a buyer.

Neighbor actress Rebekah Elmaloglou, who played Stefan Dennis’ onscreen wife, took to Instagram to congratulate Dennis on his win.

She shared a sweet throwback photo of their characters, Paul and Terese, lovingly hugging each other on the show.

Alongside the photo, she shared some heartfelt words: “Congratulations to the best man on screen ever!”

“Your professionalism, friendship and sheer hard work will always make you the legend that you are,” she added.

Neighbors was discontinued after Britain’s Channel 5 decided in March not to renew its contract with production company Fremantle to finance and broadcast the series.

Producers announced at the time that production of the long-running soap would be halted due to a lack of financial support.

“We’re sorry to say that after nearly 37 years and nearly 9,000 episodes, we have to confirm that Neighbors will stop production in June,” the show wrote on Twitter.

‘After the loss of our main UK broadcasting partner’ [Channel 5] and despite an extensive search for alternative funding, we simply have no choice but to put the show to rest.

“For our amazing, loyal fans, we know this is a huge disappointment, as it is for all of us on the team. We thank you for all your messages and support and promise to end the show on an unbelievable height. From now on we will celebrate Neighbours.’
