Neighbours feud over common parking problem in ritzy suburb on Sydney’s northern beaches

A dispute between neighbours in one of Australia’s most desirable suburbs over a shared parking issue has left neither party happy with the outcome.

A woman from Sydney’s beachside suburb of Manly became so frustrated with her neighbour’s thoughtless parking that she reported him to the Northern Beaches Council, resulting in him receiving a fine.

She admitted she found it “childish” but wrote on social media that she was fed up with the “offensive man” parking on the sidewalk in front of his house.

She claimed that the man’s “loud, oversized vehicle is permanently protruding from his property and partially blocking the sidewalk” and posted a photo to support this.

Although he is parked in his driveway, parking in this manner is illegal and carries a fine of $283 on Sydney’s Northern Beaches, and can be even higher in other council areas.

The council has confirmed that the man has been fined, but his neighbour claims he is still working on it.

“This noise-causing monster should be banned,” the woman said of the large van whose box was sticking out over the sidewalk in the photo she posted on Facebook.

She added that the pickup “could at least be parked on the street (preferably not ours).”

Northern Beaches Council regulations state that residents are not allowed to park on or opposite a driveway (even your own driveway) to ensure pedestrian safety and access.

“Please ensure your car is parked within the front boundary of the property or safely on the street,” the council said.

Despite the fine he received, his neighbor was shocked to see the driver’s “pride and joy” still sitting in the driveway.

The woman got fed up and turned to social media for advice.

“Revenge is unfortunately not mine,” she wrote.

‘Today I received an email from the council stating that the issue had been resolved.

‘Is the council not concerned about this or is this not a crime enough to take action?’

The ongoing parking problem is causing division among the local population.

“I’m surprised he isn’t arrested because he’s blocking the sidewalk for strollers and wheelchairs,” one person wrote.

Another added: ‘That’s quite dangerous. Plus, disabled people or kids on bikes could crash into it.’

Others defended the neighbors and advised the woman to stop nagging and mind her own business.

“You sound like one of those neighbors who sticks their noses in other people’s business,” someone wrote

Another added: ‘Car park is s*** but it doesn’t seem to affect you. Take a deep breath and stop worrying about things that don’t really matter.’
