Grenada’s Anderson breaks 90-meter barrier
Two-time world champion and Paris Olympic bronze medalist Anderson Peters of Grenada finished the event in first place with his second throw of 90.61 metres, while Julian Weber of Germany took third place with 87.08 metres.
Peters, who struggled to find form last year, led the competition from start to finish and made his mark on his class with the 90m-plus throw in the sixth attempt in Lausanne. He has a personal best of 93.07m set in 2022.
Czech Jakub Vadlejch, who finished seventh on Thursday (82.03 m), is in second place with 16 points.
Neeraj Chopra’s best throws so far
Neeraj, who set his personal best of 89.94m in the 2022 Diamond League, broke his next-best record twice at the 2024 Paris Olympics. He recorded a throw of 89.34m in the qualification round and followed it up with a throw of 89.45m in the final to secure a silver medal. However, his goal of breaking the 90m barrier remains elusive for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics gold medallist.
Neeraj will compete in the Zurich Diamond League for the first time on Thursday, September 5, 2024.
