Need for Speed developers Criterion Games will now be focusing on the Battlefield franchise

EA has announced this Need for speed studio Criterion Games will focus its efforts on the Battlefield franchise.

In a new after Shared today, it was confirmed that Criterion has moved to EA Entertainment to work on improvements Battlefield 2042and to focus on the future of the franchise, while a “core group” will continue to develop games for the franchise Need for speed series.

“Criterion has a rich history in gaming and has been working on it Battlefield, Battle Front, Burnout, and of course, Need for speed. I’m thrilled to have a studio with such a pedigree join the studios I oversee,” said Respawn CEO Vince Zampella.

‘As we have said before: we are all in Battlefield. Today, Criterion has joined our world class Battlefield studios dedicated to ushering in a new era for the franchise. The majority of the team will work with DICE, Ripple Effect and Ridgeline (which are led by Byron Beede, GM of Battlefield. Criterion’s experience with Battlefieldd, our technology and building engaging experiences will have an immediate positive impact as we continue to work on it Battlefield 2042and as we continue pre-production on a connected Battlefield Universe.”

Criterion has been added previously Battlefield 5 And Battlefield 2042like Star Wars Battlefront 2but will return to the series to improve it 2042.

Zampella explained that work on the next step will continue Need for speedstating that he has a passion for cars, “which also makes Criterion a perfect fit for me to explore another genre in gaming that I love.”

Battlefield 2042 launched in 2021, but quickly lost popularity on Xbox two months later. In June 2022, DICE said that despite the difficult launch, it would not shift its focus from the game and would reorganize, restructure and improve it. The game is currently having a “Mixed” reception on Steam, and according to the Steam Charts has seen a large drop in player numbers over time.
