Arik Gilbert was arrested for the second time in three weeks, this time in Georgia, on burglary and obstructing officers charges.
The 21-year-old was arrested Friday, according to Lumpkin County Sheriff’s Office arrest records.
It is the second time in three weeks that Gilbert has been arrested. He was jailed in Lincoln, NE on August 29. on suspicion of burglary after the police received a report of a shop burglary.
Since then, security video has been released showing a suspect, believed to be Gilbert, attempting to enter SJ’s Liquor and Vape Shop.
Police responded shortly before 2 a.m. on August 29 and found a glass door shattered with large chunks of cement in the parking lot.

They witnessed Gilbert walking towards the exit with a bag. That bag contained stolen vape products, Delta 8, cigars and lighters with a total value of $1,672.07, and damage to the business was estimated at $650, police said.
Gilbert, a sophomore from Marietta, Georgia, was a five-star recruit who was the top tight end prospect and 2019 Gatorade National Player of the Year.
He recently transferred from the University of Georgia and is still awaiting a ruling on his eligibility from the NCAA as he is a dual transfer.
Gilbert initially played at LSU, where he started eight games in 2020 and was named to the All-SEC freshman team after catching 35 passes for 368 yards.
He transferred to Georgia and sat out the 2021 season. He played in three games for the Bulldogs last season, catching two passes for 16 yards and a touchdown.
Gilbert is still listed as a player for the University of Nebraska on the team’s official website. He made the scholar-athlete honor roll for Spring.
After his arrest last month, Nebraska coach Matt Rhule said, “When we brought Arik along, we knew we had a good group of people who could help him with the issues he’s facing in his life.”
“(We) were very proud of the work he did over the spring and summer. To be honest, he’s had some issues during camp. He worked to overcome them.”
The Cornhuskers have not yet made any comment regarding this latest incident.
