A Nebraska high school was placed on lockdown Tuesday morning after a gunman shot a student in the stomach before fleeing the scene.
Police and helicopters were sent to Northwest High School in Omaha. About an hour later, the suspect, believed to be a student, was arrested.
The victim was identified as a 15-year-old student at the school and was hospitalized in critical condition, reports KETV.
According to earlier reports, police described the shooter as “young.” However, no description of the suspect was given as Omaha police announced the arrest and said there was no longer a “threat to the community.”

Authorities assured residents that there was no longer a “threat to the community” and said they considered the shooting an isolated incident between two students
Authorities said the victim was found inside the school and initial indications indicate it was an isolated incident between two students.
Following the shooting, nearby Marian High School and Roncalli Catholic High School were also placed on lockdown.
About an hour after the active shooter alert went off and lockdowns were put in place, police said a suspect had been arrested and students were being slowly allowed to leave campus.
A meeting place was set up at the high school football stadium where parents could reach their children.
The incident is the third school shooting in the US in less than a week, followed by a massacre at Apalachee High School in Georgia, in which 14-year-old student Colt Gray opened fire on 13 people, killing four.
