Nearly 50,000 internship opportunities posted on portal: MCA officials

Three days before it opens for applicants, the internship program portal has registered around 50,000 vacancies across various sectors, according to sources in the Ministry of Corporate Affairs.

While 130 companies, including Jubilant Foodworks, Eicher Motors Ltd, Larsen & Toubro Ltd, Tech Mahindra, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd, Bajaj Finance and Muthoot Finance, have posted internships, many more companies are in the process of internally identifying available positions before they register. on the portal.

The Ministry of Corporate Affairs will open the portal for candidates to apply from October 12 to 25.

After this, several shortlists will be created using artificial intelligence and shared with the companies, who will make their selection between October 27 and November 7.

Sources say the maximum opportunities lie in the oil, gas and energy sectors, followed closely by the travel and hospitality sectors. Other sectors where opportunities are available include automotive, banking and financial services, infrastructure and construction, manufacturing and industrial, and aerospace and defense.

Internships are available in more than 20 fields, including operations management, manufacturing and production, maintenance and sales and marketing, in 650 districts across 36 states and union territories.

The portal opened on October 3 for companies to post internship opportunities through a pilot project. The program aims to provide 125,000 internship opportunities to youth aged 21 to 24 by the financial year 2024-25, with a budget of Rs 800 crore.

The government aims to train one crore youth in India’s best companies in five years through the internship program. The young people will be exposed to real business environments, varied professions and employment opportunities over 12 months.

The eligibility criteria for internship candidates require that they have completed secondary school or higher secondary education, hold a certificate from an industrial training institute, hold a diploma from a polytechnic institute, or have a university degree. Applicants must also be Indian citizens who are not employed or in full-time education. Those enrolled in online or distance learning programs are eligible to apply.

Candidates can browse internships based on their favorite industries, roles and locations, and apply for up to five positions.

The Ministry of Corporate Affairs will provide an immediate benefit of Rs 6,000 to the intern upon joining and cover under Prime Minister Jeevan Jyoti Bima and Prime Minister Suraksha Yojana. Financial assistance of Rs 5,000 per month will also be provided to the intern, with Rs 4,500 to be disbursed by the government and Rs 500 to be paid by the company from its corporate social responsibility (CSR) funds.
