Ne-Yo’s ex-fiancee Monyetta Shaw-Carter claims they split because the singer wanted ‘threesomes a lot’ and it ‘became a problem’

Ne-Yo’s ex-fiancée Monyetta Shaw-Carter and the mother of two of his children finally revealed the reason why they ended their engagement in 2013.

The actress, 43, said she would “get into threesomes with Ne-Yo” during their relationship, but then there came a time when he “really wanted it” and it “became a problem.”

“I thought, ‘If that’s what you want, then you don’t want me.’ I tried to keep it cute and spicy, but it wasn’t enough. But it is what it is.’

Monyetta made the admission during a sit-down interview with House of Aaronwhich fell on Tuesday.

Ne-Yo, 43, and Monyetta began dating in 2009 and got engaged, but split two months before their wedding in 2013.

They share two children together: Madilyn, 12, and Mason, 11.

Dailymail.com has reached out to Ne-Yo representatives for comment.

The conversation sparked after she revealed that she was originally offered a spot on season five of Real Housewives of Atlanta – when she was with Ne-Yo – but he told her his management said it would “rui his career.”

Season five of RHOA aired between 2012 and 2013.

“When I was with my children’s father, I had to be with the Housewives. It was the year Kenya (Moore) and Portia (Williams) entered. Everything… agreed… We agreed. And then a few weeks later, he (Ne-yo) came back after that. “No. My management said it would ruin my career,” and I chose family because that’s what I do. I’m all for family.”

“But kid, if I’d known he was going to clean up this mess, I would’ve been like… honey…”

Monyetta said they offered to pay for their wedding, but she declined, preferring her family.

“Everyone talks about why… it could have been then, but God has a plan and timing. It’s time. It is what it is,” she said.

Monyetta currently stars in season 15 of RHOA, having made her debut as Kandi Burruss’ boyfriend (in 2022) the season before.

When the host said, “He (Ne-Yo) cheated…” Monyetta said, “Well, he wasn’t ready yet. We cheated together when it made sense, and then it just wasn’t enough. And then I thought, well no, I didn’t sign up to do this every day…”

The host asked her “so he cheated and then you cheated?”

Monyetta said, “No honey, I mean… you know… we did things together. It’s not cheating if you’re involved. Like the little one (Monyetta holds up three fingers to indicate a threesome).”

‘Honestly, I’m just very versatile. And there I was at the time, but it became a problem if you really want it to be. Maybe I’ll give you twice a year, you know three times, but it’s too much,’ she said.

“I thought, oh if that’s what you want, you don’t want me. You know, it always made it seem like I wasn’t enough. I think okay, I grew up with a loving father, thank God, and a loving mother, so I know my self-worth.

“We can lose it (our self-esteem), because honey, I lost myself after the breakup and having kids because my parents…before she (her mother) died…they would have been married 50 years and that is all I saw. That’s all I wanted.

And so I was devastated — but yeah, I tried to keep it cute and sassy and all that — but it wasn’t enough. And it is what it is. So I knew the plan would come later, just trust the process.”

They talked about her husband, Heath Carter, whom she married in November 2021.

On whether they do “spicy things” too, Monyetta said, “He sees me honey. He sees me and it feels great.’

Ne-yo married Crystal Renay in 2016; they had three children together.

They separated in 2020, but reconciled and remarried in 2022; she filed for divorce again in August 2022 and their divorce was finalized in January 2023.

Ne-yo has two other children with Sade Jenea; they were born during his marriage to Crystal.

In July 2022, Crystal wrote a scathing post about Ne-Yo on her Instagram, writing, “8 years of lies and deceit.” 8 years of unknowingly sharing my life and husband with countless women who sell their bodies to him unprotected… down to the last one!’

She added, “To say I am heartbroken and disgusted is an understatement. To ask me to stay and accept it is absolutely insane. The mindset of a narcissist. I will no longer lie to the public or pretend this isn’t something it isn’t.

“I choose me, I choose my happiness and health and my respect. I have produced three beautiful children from this, but nothing but wasted years and heartache. I ask all of you to please stop sending me videos or information about his cheating because what he is doing is no longer my concern. I am not a victim. I choose to stand upright, with my head held high.

“If someone can’t love you the way you deserve, then it’s up to you to love yourself. With no hate in my heart, I wish him nothing but the best,” Crystal wrote in the post shared on her Instagram last year.
