NBC unveils gay animal kingdom documentary series ‘Queer Planet’ for Pride that will showcase ‘gay penguins, bisexual lions and fish that change sex’

NBC has unveiled an upcoming documentary that focuses on examples of same-sex relationships and gender transition in the animal kingdom.

Queer Planet is released on June 6 as part of Peacock’s Pride Month celebrations and is narrated by actor Andrew Rannells.

The project is billed as a “first nature documentary of its kind” and will “explore hidden LGBTQ+ communities among animals with unconventional sexualities and genders,” according to Indie thread.

The documentary’s synopsis reads: ‘Take a global journey and explore the rich diversity of animal sexuality – from flamboyant flamingos to pansexual primates, sex-changing clownfish, multi-sex mushrooms and everything in between.

‘This documentary looks at extraordinary creatures, witnesses astonishing behavior and introduces the scientists who are challenging the traditional concept of what is natural when it comes to sex and gender.’

“Everything you were taught as a child is wrong,” says Australian author Bradley Trevor Greive in the trailer for the film, which is rated TV-14. “This is a strange planet.”

“There is such a stigma only in humans,” says biologist Antonia Forster.

“Honestly, we should probably all be having a little more sex than we are,” Greive adds.

Rannells claims in the trailer’s voiceover that “the idea of ​​having only two fixed genders is clearly unfashionable.”

“It’s clear that wherever you look on our planet, nature is full of strange surprises,” Rannells adds.
