NBC issues correction after false claim about Kamala Harris attending dignified transfer of troops

NBC News has been forced to issue a correction after a host on “Meet the Press” made a false claim about President Biden, Vice President Harris and the families of fallen American soldiers.

Republican Senator Tim Cotton accuses Biden and Harris of ignoring the proper handover ceremony for the 13 soldiers killed during the withdrawal from Afghanistan.

Then host Kristen Welker falsely claimed that both the president and vice president attended the event.

“You know who else the families invited? Joe Biden and Kamala Harris. Where were they?” Cotton said. “Joe Biden was on a beach. Kamala Harris was at her mansion in Washington, D.C. She was four miles away — 10 minutes away.”

“She could have gone to the cemetery and honored the sacrifice of those young men and women, but she didn’t. She never spoke to them or had a meeting with them,” he continued.

“It is because of her and Joe Biden’s incompetence that those 13 Americans were killed in Afghanistan,” Cotton added.

Welker tried to interject and said, “Well, they did meet them during the dignified transfer. They were with them during the dignified transfer.”

But the NBC host was wrong and in a rare admission of error, Meet the Press published a correction on X, formerly known as Twitter.

‘On our broadcast this morning, we falsely suggested that both President Biden and Vice President Harris were present for the dignified transfer of 13 American service members killed during the withdrawal from Afghanistan. Biden was present, Harris was not.’

But users were not satisfied with the apology.

Last year, a damning report by a watchdog claimed that poor planning by the US military before its “abrupt” withdrawal from Afghanistan led to the rapid collapse of the Western-backed government when the Taliban invaded the country in August 2021.

“She didn’t ‘imply’ it. She outright said it. She lied to protect Kamala. Shame on you,” TikTok’s X account Libs responded.

Last year, a damning report by a watchdog claimed that poor planning by the US military before its “abrupt” withdrawal from Afghanistan led to the rapid fall of the Western-backed government when the Taliban invaded the country in August 2021.

The sharp analysis by the Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction (SIGAR) concluded that the US decision to withdraw “has destroyed the morale of the Afghan National Security Forces (ANDSF)” and that the 300,000 local troops were doomed to failure without US support.

It also details the Taliban’s inventory of weapons and equipment worth more than $7 billion, and the widespread corruption within the Afghan army and government.
