Los Angeles Clippers forward Amir Coffey has been charged with two felonies after he was arrested in July when police found a loaded handgun in his car.

According to TMZthe Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office reported carrying one loaded firearm and another carrying a concealed firearm.

The 26-year-old Minnesota resident was a passenger in a car pulled over in Hollywood around 2:30 a.m. Sunday, DailyMail.com confirmed in July.

Officers claimed they smelled marijuana, prompting a search, which revealed a loaded gun. Coffey reportedly admitted the firearm was his and he was arrested on felony firearm possession charges.

Los Angeles County jail records show that Coffey was arrested around 5 a.m. and later released on his own initiative.

Another passenger was caught with marijuana in a moving vehicle, according to police records provided to DailyMail.com.

“We are aware of a legal situation involving Amir Coffey and are investigating it,” a team spokesman told DailyMail.com in an email at the time.

Coffey has not spoken publicly about the incident, but is expected to appear in court on the matter later in September.

Coffey could face a year in prison and a $1,000 fine for the arrest, but that’s unlikely for a first-time offender.

Coffey, who did not depart from Minnesota, signed a two-way deal with the Clippers in 2019 and has since shuffled back and forth between the NBA club and its G League affiliate, the Agua Caliente Clippers.

Last season, he averaged 3.4 points over 50 NBA appearances.
