NBA star Jimmy Butler slams ‘unemployed’ baby mama for demanding extra $10k a month
NBA superstar Jimmy Butler slams his baby mama’s ‘tremendous’ spending habits in secret paternity battle papers obtained exclusively by DailyMail.com.
Butler says the $55,000 he pays former flame Kaitlin Nowak in monthly child support should be more than enough for their three children Rylee, Brayan and Kian.
But the Heat forward, 35, wants to know why his brunette ex-lover is charging him another $10,000 every month for a babysitter he says he doesn’t even need.
His complaints are outlined in a scathing court motion calling on Nowak, 34, to explain how she spends the “vast” sums of money he gives her.
Butler’s attorneys also note Nowak’s alleged “refusal” to get a job — adding, “It should be pointed out that the father and mother were never married.”
“Mom has no right to live as if she were married to a National Basketball Association (NBA) player.”
Butler and Nowak started dating in 2019 but largely kept their relationship secret despite him being one of the most famous players in the world.
The couple welcomed their little girl Rylee, five, in October 2019, when Butler missed the first three games of the Heat season to be present for her birth.
Jimmy Butler called out baby mama and ex-girlfriend Kaitlin Nowak (right) for demanding he fork out $10,000 a month for a nanny on top of his $55,000 in monthly child support payments, in a scathing lawsuit obtained by DailyMail.com
Butler’s son Brayan and daughter Rylee were featured as toddlers in the 2024 Netflix documentary, Starting 5
Two-year-old Brayan was born in 2022 and both children were featured as adorable toddlers in Starting 5, a Netflix documentary that follows the lives of five top basketball players during the 2023-2024 season.
The birth of Butler’s second son, Kian, one, was not disclosed in confidential court papers until Nowak launched a petition to determine paternity and child support within weeks of the boy’s birth in October 2023.
That was around the same time that Butler publicly denied rumors that he was dating Colombian singer Shakira, calling her an “incredible human being” while insisting they were just friends.
He and Nowak reached a partial agreement in December 2023 that gave Butler shared custody and agreed to pay for a nanny on a “temporary” basis.
The case was declared confidential and remained under seal until he decided to seek a hearing to challenge the nanny arrangement a year later.
Rylee will start school later this year and Brayan will attend preschool or daycare, “reducing or even eliminating the so-called mom nanny,” according to his filing.
‘Mother is unemployed and refuses to look for work. With one child in preschool and dad doing the same timeshare as the older kids, there is no legitimate reason for mom to insist on a babysitter and dad paying for that babysitter.
“The parties have attended mediation in an attempt to resolve all outstanding issues, but mother refuses to relinquish her demands that father pay for the nanny, in addition to the enormous amount of child support he pays,” it said.
Butler and Nowak started dating in 2019 but largely kept their relationship secret. They share three children together
Butler argues that the $55,000 he pays Nowak in monthly child support should be more than enough for their three children Rylee, five, Brayan, two, and one-year-old Kian.
Lawyers for Butler — who earned $49 million this year after signing a $184 million, four-year contract extension in 2021 — warn they could seek the appointment of an independent mediator to investigate Nowak’s finances.
‘If mother claims that she cannot afford a babysitter despite the child support she receives (which even exceeds the maximum these children could possibly need), father is entitled to an accounting of mother’s use of the money and, possibly, of the appointment of a special guardian to oversee expenditure,” the motion said.
Butler has been with the Heat since 2019 and was the cornerstone of their march to two NBA Finals.
He has a $52 million player option for the 2025-26 season, but it seems likely he will leave Miami after telling the media last week that he no longer enjoyed playing for the team.
Butler’s comments prompted Heat officials to take the drastic action of suspending him for seven games for criticizing the organization.
With the Feb. 6 trade deadline approaching, he may have played his last game for the South Florida team, which is seventh in the Eastern Conference.
“Through his actions and statements, he has shown that he no longer wants to be part of this team,” a team statement said.
“Jimmy Butler and his representative have indicated they want to be traded, so we will listen to offers.”
Attorneys for Butler noted that the children’s mother is “unemployed and refuses to seek employment” and argued that a nanny is not “reasonably necessary”
Rumors about Butler’s future have swirled since he sold his $8.3 million Coral Gables mansion last summer.
Since then, he’s reportedly been spending $70,000 a month renting a palatial waterfront mansion on Miami Beach’s ultra-luxe Hibiscus Island.
In recent years, Butler has emphasized to the media that his children are now his first priority.
“I always talk about my ‘why,’ and my ‘why’ is my children,” he told ABC in June 2023.
“Like everything I do now, I want to make it for them at home. I want to make sure they’re safe.”
Asked what the first thing he would do after losing to the Nuggets in the 2023 NBA Finals, Butler told Bleacher Report, “I’m going to play with my daughter, man.
“I love her dearly, I miss her, I’ve been away for a very long time.”
Butler’s lawyer Brian Karpf told DailyMail.com: ‘Child support is for the benefit of the children and for the children alone. There is no justification for additional costs here.”
He said his client was “a good father” who “remains committed to the care and well-being of his children.”
Nowak’s attorney Paul Leinoff said the mother of three would respond to Butler’s claims in her own lawsuit.
