Former NBA star Scot Pollard is back on his feet just a day after undergoing a heart transplant.
Pollard, who won an NBA championship with the Celtics in 2007-08, needed a new heart because of damage from a virus he contracted in 2021.
The 49-year-old underwent successful surgery on Friday. His wife Dawn revealed that Pollard woke up on Saturday morning and the former basketball player was walking again by evening.
Incredible footage shared on social media showed the 6-foot-2 Pollard moving around the hospital with the help of a walker, dozens of wires and IV drips trailing behind him.
‘We have a walker! He continues to shock us all with his power,” Dawn Pollard wrote alongside the video.

“Look who’s awake and feeling great!” Pollard’s wife Dawn wrote after he woke up
Earlier on Saturday, she had released images of him standing after the operation. She also posted a photo of Pollard waking up from surgery.
“Look who’s awake and feeling good!” she wrote. “Early this morning the breathing tube came out and he started joking and singing, ‘I left my heart in San Fran-Nashville.’
The Pollard virus likely caused a genetic condition that he has known about since it killed his father at age 54, when Scot was 16. He underwent surgery after making his search for a donor public last month.
Pollard and his wife Dawn shared an intimate moment before his heart transplant

‘The operation went well and I’m told the heart is big, strong and fits perfectly!’ Dawn said Friday. ‘Now on to the crucial part of the recovery.
“Thank you to everyone for the continued prayers and support, but especially a big thank you to the donor, our hero.”
Before the procedure, Dawn shared intimate photos of her shaving her husband’s head and beard before the transplant. She asked her followers to pray for her 6-foot-4, 260-pound husband.
Pollard’s size complicated efforts to find a donor with a heart big enough to fit inside his body.
