NBA champion Matt Barnes reveals his son needed emergency surgery following car accident as he opens up on ‘tough week’

NBA champion Matt Barnes has announced that his son Isaiah had to undergo emergency appendectomy this week after being hit by a car a few days earlier.

Barnes, who ended a long playing career in 2017, shared with Instagram Sunday that his teenage son was hit by a car while jogging on Wednesday.

The former Lakers and Clippers forward said Isaiah was experiencing abdominal pain on Friday and that he tried to play despite the pain during the Mamba Invitational, a basketball tournament named after Barnes’ former teammate Kobe Bryant.

However, Isaiah “couldn’t sleep” on Friday, causing him to tell his mother about the pain before Barnes took his son to the emergency room.

There, the doctor said Isaiah had “the largest appendix he’d ever seen that hadn’t ruptured,” and the teen underwent emergency surgery on his appendix.

On Sunday, Isaiah posted a message on his own Instagram confirming that he had been fired.

Barnes thanked the staff at UCLA Health for caring for his “baby boy” and posted a photo of his son giving the middle finger while in the hospital.

He did not indicate whether the appendix problem was a result of the car accident or whether it was an entirely different issue.

Isaiah also called the trial “one hard week” in a separate message.

The 44-year-old played for various franchises from 2003 to 2017 after being drafted in the second round by the Grizzlies.

He ended his career with a title in 2017, while still a member of the Golden State Warriors.
