A naturopathic doctor has revealed a bizarre secret that she says could help you live longer – and it’s quite surprising.

The information was shared in a new video posted on TikTok this week by Dr. Janine Bowringa Canadian-based expert with over 25 years of experience and clinical research to her name.

She revealed that breathing less may be the secret to living longer.

“The average adult takes about 15 to 20 breaths per minute, which is actually way too many,” claimed Dr. Bowring.

“If you can slow your breathing down to about five point five breaths per minute, that now relates to longevity,” she continued.

The doctor then began comparing humans to other animals, such as dolphins and whales, which breathe less and live “much longer” than humans.

She said these mammals only take three to five breaths per minute.

“Whereas a mouse takes 90 to 250 breaths per minute, and they only live two to seven years,” she explained.

The information was shared in a new video posted to TikTok this week by Dr. Janine Bowring, a Canadian-based expert with more than 25 years of experience and clinical research to her name.

“Stress, as we know, we breathe faster when we’re stressed, and we know that stress is definitely correlated with a shorter lifespan, so my tip here is to breathe consciously and slow down breathing,” the doctor continued. .

“This is one of the reasons why meditation and yoga can be very powerful and help you live longer,” she concluded.

And it looks like Bowring is on to something here.

According to Earth.comA study conducted on mice last year by researchers at Massachusetts General Hospital found that mice kept in areas with lower oxygen levels lived longer.

They reported that the mice exposed to 11 percent oxygen levels lived “50 percent longer” compared to their counterparts kept at 21 percent oxygen levels.

“The theory is that less oxygen reduces cellular damage and stimulates cells to clear and recycle damaged components more efficiently, slowing the aging process,” the paper wrote.

However, the study has not been repeated in humans, so it is unclear how this would affect us.

“It is premature to speculate on the implications of these findings for human aging,” pulmonologist Dr. Roger Roberts, the study’s lead researcher, told the newspaper.

“But there are several interesting indications from epidemiological research that living at high altitudes with lower oxygen concentrations could extend average lifespan and reduce the burden of age-related diseases,” continued Dr. Roberts.

Breathing less is not the only naturopathic tip that Dr. Bowring has shared with viewers in recent months.

In December, she shared three tips to help you go to the toilet every morning.

The first piece of advice she gave to stimulate bowel movements was to drink something warm when you first wake up in the morning.

“This will help stimulate your colon to release its contents,” explained Dr. Bowring out.
