The owner of a naturist resort in Fuerteventura has told all about nudist holidays.
The 57-year-old explained the do’s and don’ts of being in fashion, from making eye contact to dealing with erections – and noted why nude holidays aren’t about sexual attraction.
Karie Jane from Derbyshire has taken the initiative BHH Naturist Resort in the Canary Islands, Spain, after first trying the lifestyle 20 years ago.
Now she runs retreats where she hosts groups of strangers who have “booked separately” to enjoy the hotel rooms in her clothing-optional property, as well as families and couples.
On her resort website, Karie notes that ‘nudism is not shameful, or porn’, and told MailOnline Travel that when it comes to the etiquette of undressing in the company of fellow naturists, it’s all a matter of respect – ‘and a mistake to think so. is about sexual attraction’.

Karie (above) explained that the appeal of nudism is ‘the freedom to not wear clothes and feel liberated’
Karie continued: ‘Etiquette in any situation, not just naturism, is about respect and consideration towards others over our own behavior.
‘With bare buttocks, you should always sit on a towel out of politeness and hygiene towards others. This is an example of etiquette that promotes kindness, thoughtfulness and humility.”
On her website she adds: ‘You should sit on your towel, even if you have just had a fresh shower.’
The 57-year-old’s hotel FAQ page adds that you should always “keep your legs together” when sitting because “we all know you have one and no one wants to see your legs wide open ‘.
Showering before entering the pool or hot tub, meanwhile, is mandatory, with Karie noting that you can switch’dirt, grass, oils, sunscreen, lotion, deodorants and sweat’ in the communal water.

Does she have protocols around erections?
“That can happen,” says the resort owner, “especially if you’re new to nudism.”
She says the best way to deal with this “is to flip your towel or, if you’re at the beach, stay in the water until your situation is more under control.”
If someone draws attention to the fact that he or she is standing at attention, Karie notes that it should be reported.
She explains: ‘If you see someone with an obvious erection and who is deliberately attracting attention, please let a lifeguard or the authorities know. In most cases he is kicked out and is not allowed to come back.’
Staring at someone’s body is also frowned upon.
Karie’s website states: ‘It is very rude to stare and furthermore, if you are going to have a conversation with someone, make sure you are talking to them with good eye contact.
“If you’re going to an event or a beach for the thrill… you might as well buy a magazine and do us all a favor and stay home.”

Karie explained that the appeal of nudism is “the freedom to not wear clothes and feel liberated.”
The resort owner said: ‘Once you’ve seen dozens of naked people in one day, believe me, you start to worry a lot less about whether your breasts, your labia, your pubic hair, your cellulite, your freckles, you whatever… -hanging up is normal.
“Because you can see very clearly that it is.”
Avid nudist Karie occasionally hosts women-only retreats, where nude ladies come together to experience “pampering sessions, macrame crafts, private charter sailboats” and even a “jeep safari.”
Speaking about her latest ‘ladies’ week’ event, she said: ‘We’ve already had pampering sessions and long walks on the beach with interesting conversations over a skinny dip or two.
‘An all-you-can-eat BBQ at a local surf bar was great fun, followed by live rock music and dancing with the locals.
‘The yacht sailing trip must be a highlight, especially when dolphins come to play.’
Karie shared some reviews from the ladies who enjoyed a week at her resort.
Sally said: ‘Speaking of life changing, I’ll never be the same.’
While Steph added: ‘Highly recommend the whole experience which was perfect.’
The naked presenter has previously hosted a yoga retreat for men and explained that she ‘also leads a lot of mixed groups’.
She added that “just like any group, clothed or not, it’s great to be with like-minded people.”
The next ‘Ladies Weeks’ will take place from 8 to 15 October 2024 and from 7 to 14 April 2025. Men and women can book a stay at BHH Naturist Resort Fuerteventura outside these dates from £80 ($101) per night. Visit naturistcanaries.com.
