National Healthcare Group takes a mobile-first HR approach

National Healthcare Group has upgraded its workforce system with a cloud-powered platform that drives workforce mobility and data-driven decision making.

WHAT IT’S ABOUT

Through the iConnect@NHG project, the healthcare cluster underwent a modernization of its HR system to meet the changing needs of its 20,000 employees who care for 1.5 million people in central and northern Singapore.

The core of the modernized HR system is SAP’s HR platform. Integrated with SAP’s cloud-based predictive analytics and business intelligence software service, the platform provides real-time visibility of workforce data, informing talent management and workforce planning decisions.

NHG can now also direct employee performance, engagement and well-being by accessing comprehensive, streamlined workforce data, combined with sentiment analysis.

In addition, NHG implemented a low-code tool from SAP – a first among public health clusters – giving employees easy access to tasks, policies and personalized workspaces.

The first phase of the project, which began in January last year, saw the introduction of modules including Central, Time Management, Recruitment, Onboarding, Learning and Development, and Performance and Goal Management. The second phase, which launched over a year ago in November, introduced advanced features such as succession management and compensation planning.

WHY IT’S IMPORTANT

NHG has opted for a mobile-first, data-driven approach for HR modernization. “We needed a system that could improve mobility, improve data accuracy and support continuous learning – all while being accessible to employees on the go,” explains NHG Chief HR Officer Khoo Swee Lan.

From the first month of implementation, NHG found that approximately 90% of its workforce, or 19,000, easily used the new employee mobile application. More than 95% also logged into the HR platform and completed more than 25,000 workflows.

In addition to increasing employee engagement and reducing administrative tasks, these initial findings also indicate that access to data enables staff to make proactive decisions.

THE BIG TREND

Synapxe, Singapore’s national health technology agency, recently rolled out a common analytics platform for the public healthcare system. The cloud-hosted HEALIX (Health Empowerment through Advanced Learning & Intelligent eXchange) consolidates existing data infrastructures of individual hospitals and healthcare institutions. It also provides access to cloud-native tools for developing AI models – which Synapxe has been promoting in the industry.

Enabling data-driven decisions is what also led NHG to offer its community care partners access to a health program management platform. The NHG Cares Partners Portal allows these community partners to monitor care demand by tracking registration and attendance and real-time updates, and access anonymized health data to design programs tailored to the community.
