Read the blunt email Channel Seven reporter Nathan Templeton sent to Bachelorette star Georgia Love after she called out the entire newsroom over a grammatical error

Channel Seven reporter Nathan Templeton stood up for his colleagues after they were chastised for grammar by fellow journalist and former bachelor Georgia Love.

Templeton, 44, tragically died after a medical episode while walking his dog near the Barwon River in Geelong on Monday evening.

The journalist has worked for the Seven Network for more than a dozen years, including as a Melbourne correspondent for Sunrise and in its sports department.

He had sent a supportive email to Seven’s staff in October 2021, telling them they were all doing a great job after fellow reporter Love messaged about grammatical errors.

‘Hello friends! Just a note on the use of the word “surgery” – it doesn’t need to be used in the plural. You are having surgery, not ‘an operation’, so you don’t have ‘operations’…. I.e., “all elective surgeries have been canceled,” Love wrote in the email to the newsroom.

‘Alternatively, you can use ”operations” or ”procedures”. Eeeeeeeeeeveryone (sic) does it, it’s just one of those bug bears that isn’t right, but has crept into our language.’

Templeton, a senior reporter at the network, sent a follow-up email saying Love’s message was unnecessary.

‘Hello friends. Just a note to say that this comment is not helpful or reasonable. Please keep up your great work and forget about it. You are all doing a great job under difficult circumstances. Keep up the good work – we love you. XXX,” he wrote.

Love’s email was also incorrect because “operations” can be used in certain contexts.

Daily Mail Australia understands Templeton had long struggled with personal issues – including depression – and received support.

He is survived by his wife Kate and two young sons James and Jack.

He had not been on air for the show since late 2022 and worked in a behind-the-scenes role last year.

His family said in a statement on Wednesday: “Our hearts are broken for an adoring father and a wonderful friend who will be missed by many.”

Just a few days earlier, Nathan had shared photos on Instagram of himself and his two young sons eating chocolate eggs on Easter morning.

“Favorite morning of the year,” he captioned the family photo.
