- Nathan Cleary has sent a message to the Matildas
- Australia defeated Zambia 6-5 on Monday morning
- It means their Olympic dream is still alive
Nathan Cleary joined the large group of Matildas fans and got up early to cheer on the team in France.
And after a nerve-wracking 90 minutes, Mary Fowler’s team made sure the Australian supporters did not start the day disappointed by recording a stunning victory over Zambia.
The Matildas’ match against their African rivals produced a whopping 11 goals, with the World Cup semi-finalists trailing by three goals at one point. It looked set to be a surprise result that all but sealed their early exit.
However, goals from Steph Catley and Michelle Heyman turned the tide and Tony Gustavsson’s team secured all three points, keeping their Olympic dream alive.
Cleary, who is in a relationship with Manchester City star Fowler, tuned in to the big match and was pleased with the result afterwards.
Cleary posted a photo of Fowler on his TV screen and wrote “comeback” with an applause emoji.
Cleary is known for making spectacular comebacks on the football field and played a crucial role in helping Penrith to victory in last year’s Grand Final against Brisbane Broncos.
