Nathan Cleary & Mary Fowler’s Aussie reunion is OFF as Matilda cancels Sydney trip – fuelling speculation couple have secretly split

Nathan Cleary's Sydney reunion with girlfriend Mary Fowler has been called off at the last minute as the Matildas star pulled out of her planned trip to Sydney.

Fowler was scheduled to be one of the star attractions at the team's fan day at CommBank Stadium in the city's west on December 21, but organizers announced she 'can no longer attend' in a statement which was released on Tuesday.

She and Cleary last saw each other in Perth on November 2 when they said goodbye at the airport, just days after Ny Breaking Australia exclusively revealed their romance in photos of the couple sharing some tender moments in a park.

Fowler returned to Britain to play for Manchester City, while Cleary soon left Australia to continue his off-season holiday with a visit to the US.

Their fans had hoped they would reunite, with Fowler attending a Matildas fans day in Sydney next week, but those plans fell through.

Their fans were hoping Cleary would stay in North America so the couple could reunite when Fowler joined the Matildas for two games against Canada earlier this month.

However, he returned to Australia to prepare for pre-season training with the Penrith Panthers.

On Sunday, Fowler posted a few special selfies showing off a dramatic new look on Instagram.

Wearing a white off-the-shoulder dress, Fowler puckered up for the camera while wearing bold red lipstick.

Cleary — who was quick to like his girlfriend's posts up until that point — still hasn't liked her most recent effort at the time of writing, which is a first for the couple.

Her fans questioned the reasons behind the dramatic new look, which was accompanied by a single red rose emoji.

The football star raised eyebrows when she showed off a dramatic new look on Instagram over the weekend – and unusually, Cleary still didn't like the post

Fowler (pictured before a Manchester City match) also set tongues wagging when she recently posted a cryptic poem referencing life's 'terrible moments'

On November 28, the 20-year-old soccer star raised eyebrows when she posted a cryptic poem referencing life's “terrible moments.”

Famed author LR Knost's piece focused on the challenges people face every day, urging them to “breathe in the amazing” and “breathe out the ordinary” moments of their day.

That message has now been deleted.

Last week, Cleary was left red-faced when asked about Fowler while attending the GQ Awards in Sydney alone.

Asked: 'Where is Mary?' he replied, “I knew this was coming,” as he blushed.

“I'm alone here…no plus one.”

Fowler's absence from the fan day in Sydney was sent to ticket holders, saying: 'We regret to inform you that Mary Fowler will no longer be able to attend the event at CommBank Stadium next Thursday, December 21st.

“We are thrilled to announce that superstar Caitlin Foord will join Mackenzie Arnold and Alanna Kennedy on the court for a breathtaking event, including a live masterclass and insight into their personal and professional lives.”

CommBank Stadium is just a relatively short drive from Cleary's home base in Penrith in Sydney's far west.

When the couple was photographed embracing in Perth in late October, Fowler declined to comment when Ny Breaking Australia asked about the romantic display, saying: “Sorry, I just want to go back to my hotel.”

The Manchester City star and NRL premiership winner have been romantically linked since they were spotted together twice following the Matildas' World Cup campaign.

The couple's romance became public when Ny Breaking Australia exclusively captured photos of them sharing some tender moments in a Perth park on October 31 (pictured)

The pair were then seen sharing an ice cream after a promotional event hosted by Adidas, a brand that both athletes endorse.

Just days before their romance became public, Cleary was photographed with two Matildas fans outside Optus Stadium just before the Aussies' 8-0 win over the Philippines, with Fowler scoring the opening goal.

Matildas supporter Annie Lewin shared Cleary's photo with the caption 'stupid for the tillies', giving the clearest indication to date that there was a romantic link between the pair.

Cleary was previously partying with friends and family in Bali.
