Why Nathan Buckley was sent straight back home from his radio job after turning up to work at 5am

  • However, he was told that he was not needed for the service

Nathan Buckley was sacked from SEN HQ on Monday morning after making a mistake most of us have made at some point.

Melbourne sports fans are used to waking up to the gentle sounds of the Collingwood legend. Buckley, 51, works the morning shift most weeks alongside Kane Cornes.

Today, however, he was told to go home because he had misjudged the selection. Instead, TV reporter Tom Morris would present the show together with Cornes.

Morris and Cornes were prepared to inform listeners of the accident before the show went on the air.

“I was looking forward to this morning and when I was here earlier I heard Nathan Buckley was there too,” Morris told listeners at the start of the show.

‘Bucks came to the door and didn’t read his schedule properly, so he was turned away by (producer) Mitch.’

“It’s amazing,” Cornes said.

“Mitch came in and said Bucks was a little bit ahead of me. Believe it or not, Bucks was coming at 5 and we had to turn him away. I think he was pretty okay with that.”

An unsympathetic Morris said: ‘All he has to do is read his diary.’

Morris did provide valuable insight for the morning show, revealing that there are plans at Channel 7 to run a Sunday morning football show from 2025.

“I don’t know what time, I don’t know who’s all playing… My information is they have a couple of new shows next year,” Morris said.
