Homeless man is BANNED from shopping centres after he was allegedly caught vandalising Teslas, an Audi and a Mercedes

A man who allegedly keyed six luxury cars has been banned from entering several shopping centers and their parking lots.

Nathan Abela, 34, was arrested at a shopping center in Schofields, in Sydney’s northwest, on Sunday evening after a member of the public called police.

Three Teslas, an Audi, a Mercedes and a Volkswagen Golf were allegedly tinkered while parked in centers around Rouse Hill, Box Hill and Schofields in January and February this year.

Abela, who is believed to be homeless, is said to have had a three-blade metal multi-tool with him at the time of his arrest.

He was charged with six counts of malicious damage, and one count of taking custody of an offensive implement in a public place.

Abela faced Blacktown Local Court on Monday after a night in custody and was granted conditional bail.

As part of his conditions, the 34-year-old is banned from entering Schofields Village Shopping Centre, Woolworths at Schofields and Rouse Hill Shopping Centre, as well as the car parks at each centre.

He must also be of good behavior and abstain from alcohol and drugs unless prescribed.

Abela must also see a GP within seven days and accept any reasonably recommended treatment.

Shocking footage from the security system of one of the Teslas showed Abela allegedly carrying out the deed.

Video showed the man walking past the cars as he allegedly dragged the tools along the side of the vehicle before looking behind him to see if anyone was watching.

Abela was seen working on another car in a separate incident.

He will appear in court again on March 4.

It comes after 70-year-old Raymond Edwards and his wife Barbara were caught keying a Tesla at the Brookside Shopping Center in Brisbane’s north last October.

Standing outside his home last month, Mr Edwards told Daily Mail Australia that he and Barbara had let frustration get the better of them after being ‘cut off’ and almost forced into a utility pole by a white Tesla and a white BMW, about 800 meters from the shops. .

The couple then tried to retaliate, but were caught by Tesla’s sentinel mode, which captures threats on video. They were also seen tinkering with the BMW.

Mr Edwards admitted keying the cars was the wrong decision before launching into a tirade about the behavior of motorists.

He also stated that he would never own an electric vehicle and that he would “stand there and clap” if he ever saw a Tesla on fire on the side of the road.

“I regret our actions, but the point is that civility has been thrown out the window and stupidity has been thrown in,” Edwards said.

Mr Edwards was ordered to pay $2,443.61 in compensation for the damage caused to the Tesla and the BMW, while Ms Edwards was ordered to pay the remaining $897.25 for repair work to the Tesla.
