Natalie Portman speaks out on double standards of how women ‘are expected to behave’ at Cannes

During a press conference at the 76th Cannes Film Festival on Sunday, Natalie Portman pointed out the double standard of how women are “expected to behave differently” from men.

The Oscar winner, 41, who recently wowed by recreating an iconic Dior dress at the annual festivities, got candid at a press conference for her May December project, which premiered at the festival on Saturday.

While she was joined by fellow castmates and director, Todd Haynes, she said per People, “The whole movie is so much about performance and the different roles we play in different environments, for different people, even ourselves.”

The Black Swan actress added that the concept itself was “something I’m definitely curious about and interested in.”

The star went on to use the festival as an example, saying, “This aspect of, even here – the different ways we as women are expected to behave at this festival, even compared to men.”

Natalie later gushed about the chance to land a role in the film, saying, “It’s incredible to be a part of a movie like this, with two complex female characters that are full of delightful conflict,” per Variety.
