Natalie Barr and Matt Shirvington get into heated debate over obscure Christmas ‘classic’

Sunrise hosts Natalie Barr and Matt ‘Shirvo’ Shirvington got into a heated debate on Friday over an alleged ‘Christmas classic’.

The row started after Nat, 56, introduced herself a holiday segment featuring a throwback clip featuring British pop superstar Cliff Richard singing the tune Mistletoe and Wine.

After telling viewers that the After the syrupy Christmas song ‘skyrocketed’ to the top of the charts in 1988, Nat admitted the song was new to her.

“I don’t think I’ve heard of that song in my life,” she said.

Matt, 46, interrupted: “I don’t think I’ve ever heard you talk that high.”

He then urged viewers that the song was “still a classic today… put that on your playlist.”

Sunrise hosts Natalie Barr and Matt ‘Shirvo’ Shirvington became embroiled in a heated debate on Friday over an alleged ‘Christmas classic’

The feud started after Nat, 56, introduced a Christmas segment with a throwback clip featuring British pop superstar Cliff Richard singing the tune Mistletoe and Wine.

Not willing to drop the issue, Nat asked, “Would you call that a classic, though?”

Matt insisted he knew the tune, while news presenter Monique Wright said she had never heard of it.

However, it’s not entirely surprising that the team at Brekkie Central struggled to label Cliff Richard’s song as a ‘classic’ for fans Down Under.

The song never reached higher than 30 on the ARIA charts in 1988.

Meanwhile, it was a monster hit in Britain, where it topped the charts and became Richard’s twelfth number one hit to date.

The song is also known to British listeners after it was used in a public service announcement about drink driving during the festive season.

It comes after Nat was left screaming at Sunrise on Thursday morning when she was hit with a shocking surprise live on TV.

She received a large Christmas present from co-host Matt, hidden under a sheet and a bow on a table.

After telling viewers that the syrupy Christmas song had ‘skyrocketed’ to the top of the charts in 1988, Nat admitted that the song was new to her.

But when she pulled off the red velvet sheet in her surprise, Nat screamed when she discovered that there was a contortionist performer underneath.

The fun started when Matt giggled as he joked: “I think it’s time to see what’s under Santa’s sack now.”

He then gestured to the red sheet covering a huge mass that looked like a box on a table and said, “Go for it. I couldn’t be happier about this.”

“That sounded really weird,” Nat laughed. “I have no idea what this is.”

As she grabbed the edges of the sheet and prepared to wipe it off, Matt warned her to “be gentle,” prompting her to ask, “Is there a person?”

“No, what are you talking about?” Matt said.

But Nat screamed as she ripped the sheet off, revealing it was actually a person tangled in a human knot, “What the hell is that?!”

“It’s a human,” Matt said as the contortionist untwisted his body and began to display a shocking display of flexibility.

“It’s what?” Nat cried. “Oh my goodness, God. Oh, sugar. Oh wow. Oh my God. It’s a person.’
