The marquee outside the bar where country star Morgan Wallen threw a chair off a balcony this weekend has been changed to mock the incident that led to the troubled singer’s arrest.
The marquee outside Chief’s bar in Nashville now reads: “Our pigs fly, our chairs don’t.”
The phrase on the marquee pokes fun at the disturbing incident while highlighting the bar’s barbecue menu items.
But the city’s nightlife director has insisted the incident is no laughing matter.
‘I’ve been thinking about that all morning. How do you explain why a 30 year old man would decide to throw a stool from the bar onto the roof? I’m just stunned,” Benton McDonough said.
Wallen was arrested Sunday night after allegedly throwing a chair from the top of the six-story Broadway bar, which was celebrating its grand opening weekend. The 30-year-old singer was subsequently charged with three misdemeanor counts of reckless endangerment and one count of disorderly conduct.

The chair Wallen threw reportedly nearly hit two officers standing outside the honky tonk on Broadway.
Wallen’s arrest affidavit claims the chair landed within three feet of the officers just before 11 p.m. on Sunday.
Security footage reviewed by authorities shows Wallen swerving and throwing the chair from the top of the building.

A witness told officers he threw the chair over him and then laughed.
The bar manager told the local outlet WSMV4 that the bar is not releasing video of the incident and has no comment at this time.
The country crooner was released from Nashville jail on $15,250 bail.
According to his lawyers, he is cooperating with the investigation and will appear in court again on May 3 at 10:30 am.
Wallen was reportedly youplagued by the marriage of his former flame Katie ‘KT’ Smith Luke Scornavacco on April 3, which happened just five days after they got engaged.
Smith, who was once engaged to Wallen, spoke out Monday about her ex’s arrest after her wedding.
“While it appears to be related due to the timeline, I have no evidence to believe the incident has anything to do with the recent wedding announcement,” she told the Daily Beast on Monday.
“I can’t speak for Morgan, but I’m praying all the best for him. Praying that this was just a mistake and that he returns to the right path he was on before.”
The couple announced the news on her social media with a photo of Smith, 29, holding up a marriage license from the Wilson County Clerk’s Office in Tennessee as the two grinned at the camera.

The couple dated from 2016 to 2019 and welcomed a son together in 2020.

McDonough said nightlife staff at the bar, the Metro Beer Board, police and the fire marshal are all investigating the incident.
Currently, there are no rules about nets or other safety barriers that could wrap around the rooftop bars to prevent items from falling onto the busy Broadway street below.
Objects falling from the roofs and patios of bars on Broadway are not an everyday problem, but McDonough says he is committed to solving the safety problem.
“I think the bigger the eaves are the better because I think it reduces the number of accidental leaks that we see from time to time,” he said, according to a local newspaper. WSMV4.

Authorities even claim that the chair Wallen threw away was used in a capacity that could qualify it as a “deadly weapon.”
If he were convicted of his three charges, an attorney said Fox news Wallen faces a maximum of six years in prison. The disorderly conduct charge is a misdemeanor, punishable by a maximum penalty of 11 months and 29 days in prison.
The attorney, former New York prosecutor Rither Alabre, added that the next step for the artist is for his attorney to “engage with prosecutors and attempt to resolve this case with a plea to a lesser charge, or a misdemeanor or possibly even a lesser charge. where he would face little to no jail time.”
