He recalled, “She was never really interested in having a dog… She was always like, ‘Hey, I’m going to take care of him. You’re going to be running, you’re going to go.'”

Wallace has gained national attention in 2020 as an activist.
The racing driver successfully lobbied NASCAR to ban the Confederate flag at its events earlier this pandemic-shortened season. Then, in June 2020, Wallace was believed to have been the victim of a racist attack at Talladega Superspeedway when a rope that looked like a noose was discovered in his driveway.
NASCAR’s 39 other drivers rallied in support of Wallace before the next day’s restart, collectively pushing his No. 43 car to the front of the grid in a show of solidarity.

Shortly thereafter, an FBI investigation discovered that the item, which was described in NASCAR’s original statement as a “noose-like garage door pull cord,” had been there since 2019, when a white driver was using that specific position.
Wallace, who did not discover the noose and was not the person who reported it to NASCAR or the FBI, faced criticism over the misunderstanding but described himself as “relieved” that it was not a racist threat.
“I think we’ll gladly cringe a bit about what the alternatives might have been,” he said in a statement.
Former President Donald Trump took to Twitter to criticize the driver and express that NASCAR’s ratings had been in decline, a claim that was later refuted.
Not only: various figures from around the sports world offered their support to Wallace after the discovery of the rope.
