Narcos actor Alberto Ammann says Sofia Vergara ‘composed a monster’ in order to transform into drug lord Griselda Blanco as he praises Modern Family star for taking on ‘brave’ new Netflix role

Griselda star Alberto Ammann has revealed how Modern Family actress Sofia Vergara ‘composed a monster’ to transform herself into the infamous drug lord for the new Netflix series.

Sofia, 51, plays the role of the so-called ‘Cocaine Godmother’ in the six-episode show – which is in stark contrast to her usual comedic role of Gloria Delgado-Pritchett in the hit television series Modern Family.

Ammann – who plays Griselda Blanco’s second husband Alberto Bravo in the first episode of the series – complimented the ‘professional’ actress for stepping so far out of her comfort zone and described the Colombian star as ‘tough.’

Speaking exclusively to DailyMail.com, the Argentinian actor said: ‘I think for her – and this is my opinion – this is very important because we know her from Modern Family and this character that she plays so well is a badass woman, but happy and fun, and this is completely the opposite.”

Ammann described Sofia as ‘professional’ and ‘courageous’ and revealed they laughed together when the cameras were not rolling

Ammann continued: ‘She composed a monster. It was very interesting because she immediately jumped into the pool, she was very brave. She learned to smoke, she learned many things to build this monster, because Griselda Blanco was a monster.

‘Sofia is beautiful and she used a fake nose and fake teeth, so it was a very interesting composition. She is an actress and I am happy that she has the opportunity to show that to the world because it is not easy when in the minds of the audience you are a comedy actor or actress or a drama actor or actress.”

‘So in Sofia’s case I think, ‘wow, she made that nice comedy.’ I laughed a lot and she is so well positioned in the industry as a comedy actress. For me, if I were in her shoes, I would have thought, “wow, this is a great opportunity for the profession and the audience to see me and see me do something different,” and that is to become an actress or an actor. , to play different roles.

“Sure, we have some roles that we do better and some that we’re not as good at, but as time goes on and you get older, you have more experience and we grow.”

Ammann and Sofia filmed some intense scenes together for Griselda, but despite the show being so serious, he admitted they shared some light-hearted moments between takes.

About working with the brunette actress, Ammann said, “She’s so open, but she’s very professional. She knows the business… I don’t like to say the job, because it’s more than that, but we talked and laughed a lot.

“When we were shooting the scene in the car, I said to her, ‘Sofia, this guy is terrible,’ and she told me… we were talking in Spanish, and she said to me, ‘Yes, you you’re a sh*T!” and we laughed a lot.

“I think we work for the audience, we work for the story and we work for our partners. So if I do my part well, my partner will get good things and do his part in a good way, if my partner can handle it.

“Sofia was very professional at that moment because she took everything… what I did, what I said, and that was a lot of fun because when you have a good partner, you grow.”

Ammann continued: “For me it was great to work with her. We were just getting to know each other and talking about things in the scene and how to do it with Andy (Baiz) and we did a few rehearsals.

“Another thing that’s interesting to me about this series is that the main character is a woman and in this world it’s a man’s world and the narcos are run by men. So this is a very complex character and Sofia talked a lot. with me about that.’

Of course, Ammann is no stranger to playing such roles, as he played Colombian drug trafficker Pacho Herrera for three seasons of the Netflix series Narcos from 2015 to 2017.

When asked if he ever found it difficult to switch off after a day of filming particularly intense scenes of murder and violence, Ammann referred to a shocking scene from the first episode of season three of Narcos, in which Pacho kills a man by using his body to tear apart. using two motorcycles.

‘For me, some days are (difficult). For example, when my character is dancing with another man and they kiss and then he kills a man with the motorcycles, that scene was tough,” Ammann admitted.

‘It was difficult. After that scene, my body felt like… it felt disgusting, horrible, cruel, raw, gross. So sometimes some days I have that feeling in my body, but the rest of the days I don’t because I need to switch off a little bit. I know I’m going to play a really bad guy and I enjoy playing those kinds of roles because in real life that’s not possible because you go to jail.”
