Nancy Pelosi makes shock move against Biden as Democratic insiders reveal she is ‘very concerned’ about his chances of beating Trump

Nancy Pelosi is reportedly working under the radar to keep Joe Biden out of the 2024 presidential race as concerns remain about his ability to win a second term.

The former House Speaker last spoke publicly about Biden on Wednesday, where she not explicitly told to the president Joe Biden to stay in the presidential race.

However, Pelosi is said to have been hanging around Congress and talking to as many influential Democrats as possible to try to come up with a plan to change Biden’s mind.

She is said to have reached out to everyone from Democrats living in disparate constituencies who fear Biden will influence their elections at a lower level, to veterans in deep-blue parts of the country.

A Democratic lawmaker described her anonymously as “very concerned” about Biden and did not necessarily make it clear that “we stand by [Biden]’.

The former House speaker spoke publicly about Biden for the last time on Wednesday, during which she did not explicitly tell President Joe Biden to stay in the presidential race.

Another said Pelosi’s message was, “The stakes are so high. We can’t afford to do anything other than give ourselves the best possible chance to win.”

She reportedly worries that the Biden campaign’s response to the disastrous debate in Atlanta that kicked off this controversy two weeks ago wasn’t “a fair reckoning” or “an objective analysis.”

Another anonymous Democrat said, “It’s very clear she doesn’t think this issue is resolved and that Joe Biden, when he said, ‘I’m in, shut up,’ was saying, ‘No, we’re still talking about it.'”

There are rumors that Pelosi represents the members who feel Biden is being forced to continue in the race.

“Team Biden has made clear what their strategy is: ignore the problem, buy time and force the rest of us to live with it,” said Washington Rep. Adam Smith, who called on Biden to withdraw.

“Speaker Pelosi fully supports whatever President Biden decides to do. We need to focus on why this race is so important: Donald Trump would be a disaster for our country and our democracy,” said Ian Krager.

Biden wrote in a letter to congressional Democrats on Tuesday: “I want you to know that despite all the speculation in the press and elsewhere, I am determined to stay in this race, to see this race through to the end, and to defeat Donald Trump.”

Pelosi, 84, and Biden, 81, have crossed paths in Washington for decades. She has been one of his staunchest defenders on Capitol Hill.

She said Democrats should let him handle “the NATO conference” taking place this week in Washington, DC, and hold off on public judgment “until we see how it goes this week.”

Pelosi remained silent as he left an all-Democrat meeting in the House of Representatives on Tuesday, where the future of their presumptive presidential nominee was being discussed.

Asked about Pelosi’s comments, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y., told reporters he would not comment until he spoke with her.

Democratic Party Chair Katherine Clark said of the remarks: “Our position has not changed. President Biden is the nominee. There is no light between our caucus and the work we have done with this administration and the work we will do going forward. As always, this decision is up to the president.”

So far, at least seven House Democrats have called for Biden to step aside in official statements. Others have flirted with the idea or voiced similar sentiments behind closed doors.

Sen. Michael Bennet (D-Colo.) said he thinks Biden will lose the Democrats’ election on Tuesday.

“Donald Trump, I believe, is on track to win this election, perhaps overwhelmingly, and to take control of the Senate and the House of Representatives,” Bennet said.

“I think we could lose the whole thing,” he told CNN.
