Nancy Drew producer SLAMS the network for the ‘sh***y’ way the show was canceled: ‘They suck’

Nancy Drew executive producer Larry Teng expressed his displeasure with the program’s cancellation on Thursday night in a series of posts shared on his X account.

In his statement, the 46-year-old entertainment industry figure lamented the abrupt end of the show starring Kennedy McMann and berated the executives who made the decision to cancel the series.

The program was based on the book series of the same name by Edward Stratemeyer.

Teng began his message by writing that despite the enthusiastic response from the show’s fans, Nancy Drew had been abruptly cancelled.

“From what I’ve read, the response to the latest episode has been mostly positive. Now imagine watching that finale without us knowing that this would be #NancyDrew’s last episode ever. Because that’s what almost happened,” he said.

The entertainment industry figure then recalled that, after researching McMann’s future availability, “the president of the new CW” notified the show’s team that the series would be canceled just before their scheduled season finale shots.

Then he said to us, “Oh, we’re not picking you up. The show is too expensive.” If our Studio hadn’t made that call, who knows if we would ever have been told,” he wrote.

Teng slammed the message and wrote, “What a bloody way to tell us we’re being cancelled.”

He added, “Thank God the Studio called. Because you all deserved the best possible ending. That’s why I commend the writers for putting it together in the end. It was so smooth.’

The writer further stated that the program’s showrunners were not given enough time to come up with an effective ending for the series.

“No consideration for letting Noga (Landau) and Melinda (Hsu Taylor) give you a dignified farewell. No closure. No regard for the fandom who support and watch this show,” he wrote.

Teng added, “I’ve been bullied since November at this new CW’s higher brass. They suck. They have every right to make a profit… which means they have to cancel shows.”

However, the writer concluded by speaking of the gratitude he felt for the support of the show’s fans.
