Naked suspect leads cops on a wild foot chase before popping out of garbage can when K9 unit arrives

A naked man led Washington state troopers through the streets and backyards of a leafy suburb before eventually being cornered by officers with a K9 police dog.

Jacob Matthew Patterson was already on the run from police when they finally tracked him down in Frederickson, south of Tacoma, where he was sleeping in a stolen Ford F550 truck.

But just as the officers were about to stop Patterson by deflating his tires, he suddenly woke up and was able to flee. He started his vehicle and a high-speed chase ensued.

Police said Patterson drove straight into oncoming traffic, reaching speeds of nearly 110 mph (177 km/h) when he entered the interstate.

He eventually crashed in Seattle’s Rainier Valley neighborhood, but the chase wasn’t over yet.

Despite officers pleading with him to turn himself in, Patterson decided to make one last attempt to escape, jumping over the fence into his backyard, completely naked.

The extraordinary chase was captured on several body cameras belonging to officers from the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department.

But as fast as Patterson ran, the department’s K9 police dog, named Bronco, was faster and quickly tracked him down near a collection of dumpsters behind a house.

Patterson was ordered to get out of a garbage can, but he refused until he was assured that the dog would not attack him.

Slowly but surely, the police got him to turn around and handcuff him, while Bronco, the dog, sat next to him, barking excitedly.

Patterson is now being held in the Pierce County Jail on $300,000 bail and is facing charges of unlawful possession of a stolen vehicle, two counts of reckless endangerment, resisting arrest, unlawful imprisonment, attempting to elude police, damage to property and driving on a revoked license.

A four-year-old boy who was sitting in the backseat of the car with Patterson and his girlfriend without a seatbelt has since been handed over to child protective services.
