  • The player, the club, the AFL have not announced the reasons for the visit

Demons star Clayton Oliver was admitted to the emergency department of a Melbourne hospital on Thursday, sparking embarrassing online rumors that he had died.

The 26-year-old has been released from Footscray Hospital in the west of the city after undergoing a CT scan and X-rays and has since spoken to his club. SEN reported.

However, the Demons, the AFL and Oliver have not said why he had to go to the emergency department – with fans filling the information vacuum with shocking and unfounded rumors that he had died.

The internet rumors surfaced early on Thursday afternoon, prompting footy fans to desperately search for more information on his health.

Oliver was also the subject of health rumors earlier this season when he missed three months of football after suffering a minor hamstring strain, followed by an infected blister that sent him to hospital for four days.

There was even an unfounded rumor that he had to be hospitalized due to an infection he got while getting a tattoo.

“The other reasons suggested for him not playing are ridiculous and disappointing and difficult for Clayton and his family and friends to deal with,” Melbourne football boss Alan Richardson said at the time.

Recently, several AFL clubs have inquired about the possibility of acquiring him in a trade.

The 26-year-old was also the subject of rumors earlier this year when he missed three months of footy with a hamstring strain and blister infection.

Rival AFL clubs had surrounded Oliver, believing he was available as a trade option despite a long-term contract until 2030, amid reports Melbourne wanted him to improve his attitude and off-field behaviour.

But after days of silence, the Demons poured cold water on a potential trade on Friday and committed to helping Oliver with his ‘personal circumstances’.

“It’s been confronting, but out of it all it’s an opportunity to grow,” Oliver’s manager Nick Gieschen told AFL Media after dinner with Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin.

“After many tough, honest and tough conversations, he’s been given a chance to get some things off his chest and some time to heal.

“He loves the Melbourne Football Club so much, it’s like his family.

“He’s grown up there, he feels very strongly about the football club, the players and the coaches, and sometimes the families fight, but he has enormous respect for Goody.

“And as challenging as it has been, I don’t think he can see himself playing under another manager because of all the support he’s had from the football club.”

Oliver’s relationship with the club reportedly soured after the team crashed out of the finals in a loss to Carlton.

He returned to his exit meeting with club officials more than an hour late and was told not to attend another season review with his teammates, according to Age.
