Mystery behind ‘blue lady’ who haunts South Carolina island revealed

The mysterious ‘blue lady’ haunting a South Carolina island has been revealed.

When one of America’s deadliest hurricanes made landfall in Savannah and Hilton Head on August 27, 1893, Adam Fripp was working as a lighthouse keeper, working diligently to keep ships safe.

“During the hurricane, when I was trying to man the lighthouse and keep it running, I actually fell down the stairs. Unfortunately, he passed,” Charles Pejeau, food and beverage director and chef at Palmetto Dunes Resort, told WJCL.

Legend has it that Fripp’s daughter, Caroline, was putting her father to bed and he had one dying request.

“Rumor has it that in his last breath he told her to make sure she stayed at the lighthouse and kept it functioning,” and she did just that.

But she died of exhaustion a week later and was said to be buried in her blue dress.

She now reportedly haunts the area as the Blue Lady of the island.

“If it storms, I think it probably brings back those bad memories for her,” Pejeau said. “And that’s when she stands out, when it’s dark and stormy outside.”

Some have even reported seeing The Blue Lady at the top of the lighthouse or pacing outside of it.

“I have a couple of kitchen staff that, I think, the kitchen can get a visit from her every now and then,” Pejeau said.

“Maybe early, early in the morning or late in the evening. Some lights turn on and off, or the sink turns on randomly.”

Others claim she shakes liquor bottles, turns on the taps and makes mysterious phone calls. according to the Hilton Head Island package.
