An elderly British couple have been found dead in a detached rented house in northern Greece after not being seen for several days.
The bodies of a 74-year-old, unnamed retired engineer and his 72-year-old wife were discovered on Saturday in a property on the outskirts of Thessaloniki.
The owner of the house the couple had rented for the past nine years found the bodies around noon on Saturday and then alerted police.
He had reportedly gone to the property to check on the couple as they had not been seen for about two months.
The bodies were reportedly in a state of advanced decay, but according to Huffington Post Greece, there were no traces of criminal activity.
The bodies of a British couple were found last weekend in a house they had rented on the outskirts of Thessaloniki for the past nine years.
The bodies were discovered by the owner of their rental home, who had gone to check on the couple after not seeing them for two months. After the gruesome discovery, the owner called the police who investigated the cause of the couple’s death
It is believed that the man died first, as he was found naked in a room with the door closed, while his wife was found face down in a separate room, wearing only her underwear.
Police also found an envelope with money on the ground floor to cover October’s rent.
An autopsy is currently being conducted to determine their causes of death.
Neighbors told the local press that the pair had not been seen for days and were described by their landlord as ‘lonely people’.
According to Keep Talking Greece, the man suffered from alcoholism, while the woman suffered from psychological problems. Neighbors also said the couple had frequent arguments.
The news comes after a British photographer collapsed and died after losing consciousness at the top of a Greek beauty spot last week.

The 67-year-old unnamed man was found in Vouraikos Gorge in Kalavryta after his friends called emergency services.
He was reportedly with other British and German hiking photographers hoping to capture the views as fighter jets flew overhead on the final day of the exercises.
Friends tried to revive the 67-year-old to no avail. He was later pronounced dead at Kalavryta Hospital.
Investigators are still working to determine the cause of death, with initial impressions suggesting he may have suffered from an illness, according to local media.
