Mystery as Hollywood actor’s model daughter, 20, is found dead by ‘boyfriend’ at LA home

The daughter of a Hollywood actor has been found dead in her apartment. The coroner has ruled it a suicide.

Daelena Mackay died on May 23, a month before her 21st birthday, after the man she lived with called 911 and said he had found her hanged with a scarf in the bathroom.

She was the daughter of actor Dwayne Adway and lived in the El Centro Hollywood building while attending Los Angeles City College.

The man who called police said he was her boyfriend, but Daelena’s family claimed they had broken up in January.

According to the police report, he stated that around 8 p.m. he left the apartment during an argument and found her dead when he returned.

He said he untied the scarf and pulled her down before beginning CPR until emergency services arrived, but she could not be revived.

However, Daelena’s mother Elaine continued to insist that her daughter did not commit suicide and accused authorities of failing to properly investigate her death.

“Her body tells a different story than what police are telling us, with bruising and bleeding from two stab wounds about an inch apart running from the front of her body all the way to the back, as well as other bleeding,” she said.

‘All these findings, which I made because I had no choice but to examine her body myself, the coroner omitted from his report.

“The county coroner only did a toxicology exam, no autopsy.”

The man said the couple had been arguing before he left at 8 p.m. to “de-escalate” the situation and returned hours later to find her dead, police records state.

Daelena was hanging from the shower curtain rod with a red scarf, police said. She was pronounced dead by paramedics shortly after midnight.

The Los Angeles County coroner ruled her death a suicide by hanging and said an autopsy was “not necessary” because an outside investigation and the circumstances of her death were conclusive.

According to the LAPD, the case was thoroughly investigated and detectives met with the family several times to discuss their concerns.

The police report detailed how the “friend” told detectives that he and Daelena had an argument about her approach to a man in another state before he left.

Mackay claimed that this man was her daughter’s real boyfriend in Texas, with whom she had had an on-again, off-again relationship for the past three years.

She said they got back together in January after she broke up with the man she was living with, and he wanted to visit her the first two weeks of July.

“He came to LA to visit her because they would travel back and forth to visit each other a lot during their long-distance relationship,” she said.

He said he performed CPR on Daelena until emergency services took over, but she could not be resuscitated.

‘Daelena had love for her whole family and we have love for her. Daelena loved him, she would never have abandoned her beloved.

“Everyone who knew Dae knew she wouldn’t commit suicide.”

Mackay said her daughter had too much going on in her life. She was about to graduate from college, where she studied English and cinematography, and she had big plans.

‘My daughter was not suicidal, she had seen a therapist the day before and [they] “She said there was no clinical indication of depression or suicide, that my daughter was full of zest and very enthusiastic about life,” she said.

‘She was so excited about winning a poetry competition and her upcoming 21st birthday that she, following in her parents’ footsteps, actively pursued modeling and acting.

“She had plans for the future, including a trip to Florida to visit her sister from June 8-10. She was really looking forward to going to a rave with her brother and she had plans to visit me, her mother and two younger sisters in Maine this summer.”

Mackay said her daughter told a friend she was saving money so she could move into her own apartment without her ex when her lease was up.

“We found the spot she was looking at in her jacket pocket,” she said.

The distraught mother claimed that no autopsy had been performed and that she therefore had to examine Daelena’s body herself when she wanted to identify it.

“That was an emotionally taxing and traumatic process for me,” she said.

‘As a parent you don’t want to go through this nightmare and it’s something you don’t want to experience.

“When you even have to identify the body of your daughter, or a baby that you… it’s so difficult to go through that process, let alone have to do your own research, because [the various authorities] have not done their job.

‘And I had to take pictures of my daughter’s body.

“I am asking for a full investigation by the LAPD in hopes of finding truth and justice,” he said NBC.

However, Mackay alleged that her ex-husband demanded that she pay half of the minimum $4,000 cost of a private autopsy.

“This autopsy is crucial to the case and I don’t understand why her father would choose to skip the autopsy when he knows it is of vital importance,” she said.

“All because I don’t have ‘my half’ when he has money, more than enough to just pay for it all. Why would he treat our daughter like this, she’s been in the morgue since June 18th?”

Mackay raised more than $8,200 online to pay for Daelena’s funeral and asked for more money for the autopsy, otherwise the body would be cremated and all evidence would be lost.

“Did she take her own life, or was her life taken? I want the coroner’s office to do its job and investigate the details,” he told NBC.
